Skinny Mike's Restaurant & Sports Bar at The Fort: Sports, Beer, and Comfort Food

March 07, 2013

Couple of weeks ago, along some of my food buddies, we visited Skinny Mike's Restaurant & Sports Bar located at The Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. We had a grand time indulging into bottles after bottles of beers and cocktail drinks and some food while drowning ourselves to every sports we fancy to watch in all twenty 42" LCD TVs spread around the place.

Okay, for someone who has an alcohol tolerance of a dying man (read:me) and whose knowledge about sports is limited to patintero (read: still me)
that first paragraph sounds just plain weird. But seriously, I did had a great time at Skinny Mike's. While the guys happily sipped on their beers, I focused my energy on food and drunk conversation. (Okay, I had one glass of cocktail drink y'all.)

You see, Skinny Mike's Restaurant & Sports Bar is the kind of place that you would want to be in if you are a big sports fanatic, a lover of good alcoholic beverages, and a foodie. Located just right beside S&R, a building where Kebab Kebab once was.

Skinny Mike's boasts of significantly spacious area that houses twenty 42" LCD TVs where diners could watch their choice of sports such as NFL, NHL, MLB & NBA, live satellite feeds of exclusive games included. Aside from its impressive long bar, there are couches and comfortable seats where diners can linger and just enjoy the night away. Owners Scott Nagle and Mike Lyttle, both expatriates indeed created a space that can make everybody feel at home, while away from home.

Skinny Mikes also boasts of wide selections of imported and local beers alongside other impressive lines of alcoholic beverages. With the suggestion of one of their beautiful bar attendants, named Emily, I tried one of their best sellers The Sweet Victory. A combination of Absolut Citron, Cointreau, mango puree, and simple syrup, The Sweet Victory is a perfect drink for those who wants their drink light and sweet.

To go along with sports and beers, Skinny Mike's offers variety of comfort food. This I must say, although they seem to specialized with their extensive line of drinks, Skinny Mike really take their food seriously, all thanks to the very talented chef Benny.

First dish we tried was the Stuffed Baked Potato Skins (Php 235). I love how the potato skin suggest a crunchy texture while housing a creamy and buttery mashed potato. The different kinds of cheese were added for a delightful treat, while the sour cream slathered on top sprinkled with crisp bacon bits and chives made it all the more palatable.

One need not to worry about getting their hands dirty because Skinny Mike's Boneless Buffalo Bites (Php 295) is meant to be savored effortlessly. No bones to be extracted, just pure bliss of popping into your mouth action. A tad spicy but not overwhelming as it nudges a sudden build up of kick in flavor.

Now, my favorite that night was Skinny Mike's Angus Meat Balls (Php 295). Think homey and comforting meatballs but 1 million times better. This grub made me love chef Benny to the moon and back! With the use of Angus beef, your usual meatball dish was taken several notch higher! The savory goodness of the meatballs coupled with the marinara sauce and melted mozzarella is a perfect combination that will surely make you fall for Skinny Mike's.

We also had their Cheesy Pepper Poppers (Php 345) one of Skinny Mike's best sellers. A funky dish made of roasted peppers stuffed with cheese and bacon. While it's a tad spicy for my palate, I love how the combination of creamy cheese and savory bacon even out the distinct taste of the pepper. I also appreciate their big servings. It comes with marinara sauce for dipping, but personally, it can do well on its own since it has its distinct pleasurable taste already.

Who says one cannot enjoy a good hearty dessert while having drinks? At Skinny Mike, taking their food seriously means taking their desserts equally serious. The Apple Pie we have tried is a beautiful reminder that amidst the upbeat and happy rowdy vibes inside, you can snuggle up in one corner and just enjoy a pure bliss in the company of a comforting dessert.

So if you're in search for a hardcore sports bar in the Metro that offers great beers and comforting food, I suggest that you visit Skinny Mike's. I am not big on sports nor on beers, but with the great comfort food they dishes out, I still feel at home in this sports fanatics abode. And with that, I can see myself coming back, probably with my band of guys in a tow.

  1. Hey,
I found this place quite interesting to visit. I and my friends are sports freak and drinks and good food will just add to the fun. We hate bars franchise that just serve alcohol. I will recommend them the place and will soon visit.
