Burby's Bistro Grill and Restaurant at Libis, Quezon City

October 03, 2013

Burby's Bistro Grill Restaurant along Libis in Quezon City has been in the business for quite sometime now. This restaurant located just in front of Eastwood City has been known as a place where young professionals spend their after work hours over bottles of beer and finger food that goes with it. I myself have heard of Burby's Grill during the time while I was working in Eastwood City area. With the basic knowledge that they only caters to guests who wants to drink alcoholic beverages, I never really had a chance to visit.

Little did I know, Burby's Bistro Grill Restaurant offers comfort food and other delightful meals that are meant to satisfy palates and appease even the most stubborn of cravings. While it is known to serve cocktail drinks and other alcoholic beverages in a cozy environment, Burby's Bistro Grill Restaurant is also at par with other restaurants serving comfort food in terms of quality and affordability.

With branches at Libis, Taguig, Commonwealth, San Fernando, and NLEX, Burby's Bistro Grill Restaurant boasts of serving wide variety of dishes including all-day breakfasts meal. Having visited them weeks ago, I could attest that I was deeply impressed at how extensive their menu is. In terms of flavor, well, I could say that they did not disappoint.

My visit started with two of Burby's all-day breakfast fare; the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Php125) and the Tawilis Meal (Php150). The grilled cheese may look like your usual cheese sandwiched between two pieces of white bread and then grilled. But what makes this meal special is the addition of fruit jam meant to be smothered on the sandwich. It was the first time I ate such combination and I must say that it was a genius idea. The french fries it was served with was an added treat.

The fried tawilis was an equally filling breakfast treat. I personally love crisp tawilis and while these little fishes were lovely, the entire experience was all the more elevated by the special tomato and onion salad it was served with. Coupled with generous serving of garlic rice and egg fried sunny side up, this meal can be a perfect wake-me-up dish which can be enjoyed the whole day.

The prelude to the main dishes we enjoyed was the Tinapa Rice. Bountiful serving of rice peppered not just with shredded tinapa flakes, but with variety of vegetables as well. Topped with fried scrambled egg, this rice dish can be a meal in itself. But with impressive line up of viands on their menu, you would definitely think twice.

Munching on Burby's Chicken (Php140) reminded me of General's Chicken I used to enjoy from one of the restaurants at Shangri-La Mall that I frequent to.  Fried battered chicken and fried egg plant in Burby's special sauce, this dish suggests a pull and push of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors that plays in the palate well. I love the fact that the chicken pieces remained crisp even after smothered with generous sauce.

Another stellar meat dish that I enjoyed immensely was their Grilled Liempo Strips (Php205). I cannot remember how many times I have mentioned how perfectly marinated the pork strips were while feasting on it. The flavor stuck a nice balance between savory, sweet, and smoky all at once. Each strips are thin enough for the flavor to shine through without overpowering the distinct taste of the pork meat.

Burby's Grill also takes pride on their Kare-Kareng Lechon (Php290) Generous cutlets of succulent lechon kawali was used instead of the usual meat. Perfectly steamed vegetables and awesome peanut sauce comprised the rest of this awesome dish.

The crisp skin of pork the its succulent meat made the dish more indulging. I could an entire serving of this with heaping bowl of steamed rice, and I will be a happy camper. The bagoong was a perfect addition, but as good as it is, the kare-kare can even do without it.

Crispy Tokwa't Baboy (Php160) we were told is one of the favorites of those who visit Burby's for drinking sessions. I cannot blame them. Crisp pork and tofu combined always calls for a cold bottle of beer. But nobody says that you cannot enjoy it with rice so that's what I did.

I may have enough meat in one single visit but I cannot help myself but to have Burby's BBQ Ribs (Php170) as well. While it was not the fall-off-the-bone kind of ribs, the succulent tenderness of the pork was just right to the bite.

After having tasted the liempo strips, I already have an idea that Burby's do their marinade sauces well, so I was not really surprised that I also took a great liking to their BBQ Ribs. The special barbecue sauce that came with the meal was also notable. Eat it with garlic rice or steamed rice, it's still good that you would be asking for more.

Burby's Grill line of dessert is currently on a revamp but diners may enjoy some goodies that are beautiful meal-ender. While it was enticing to have a scoop or two of FIC ice cream, I enjoyed Apple  Crumble (Php165) instead and did not regret it. It was definitely one of the best apple crumbles I have had by far since it suggests of fresh baked apple which tart sweetness wasn't overwhelming. I heard they also serves kick ass huge cookie ala mode for two, I guess I will try that on my next visit. Also, since they are in partnership with FIC Ice Cream, variety of ice cream concoctions are also available.

Beverages choices on their menu are kept simple. They fresh fruit shakes, sodas, coffee, tea, iced tea, and sago't gulaman. Of course, alcoholic beverages and cocktails are still ever present on the menu for their diner's enjoyment.

I was glad that I was introduced to Burby's Bistro Grill and Restaurant recently because otherwise, I wouldn't know that they are serving downright impressive dishes. The service was prompt and accommodating while the prices are very affordable. People only knew this place as a great hang out for drinking session, but I have high hopes that soon enough, they will be known and respected for the great dishes they are offering.
