Gloria Maris

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

One of the many reasons why I love living in San Juan City is its proximity to most of the restaurants I love. Take for example Gloria Maris. There's one at Wilson St. and another one near Greenhills Shopping Center. One of the well-loved and most recognized Chinese restaurants by Filipino, Gloria Maris is known for serving home-grown and unique selection of Chinese cuisine.

For someone who has deep affinity for Chinese cuisine, things like this matter, believe me. Especially when your ultimate favorite Chinese restaurant is located in Binondo, which I consider really far, it is comforting to know that there are restaurants like Gloria Maris I could go to whenever intense cravings for Chinese cuisine hit me.

While I am happy with the dimsum they serve at Mr. Choi Kitchen, when it comes to roasting combination and noodles (especially noodles) I would choose Gloria Maris in a heartbeat.

Mr. Choi Kitchen at Robinsons Galleria

Monday, May 7, 2012

Mr. Choi Kitchen located at Robinson's Galleria used to be one of the restaurants I frequent to during the time when I was still working in Ortigas Center.  They serve good dimsum which suited my liking, hence, the frequency of my visits during those days were slightly beyond recommended.

Known as one of the best traditional Chinese restaurant in Manila which serves authentic Chinese cuisine, Mr. Choi Kitchen has been in the list of most favored restaurants by most of the foodies I know.

When moving on to a new job commensurate to parting with some of the restaurants in Ortigas area which I regularly visit, my affair with Mr. Choi's dimsum was put into a halt. Recently, I was able to unite again with my favorite during some random snack meet up with a friend.

The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel at Bonifacio High Street

Thursday, May 3, 2012

Dining at The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel at Bonifacio High Street in BGC Taguig is like getting in touch with one's childhood dream of entering the world of saccharine treats, yet, with a mature and sophisticated flair.  An addition to the posh line of restaurants at Bonifacio Global City The Fort, particularly Bonifacio High Street, The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel is set to offer sublime dishes and delectable desserts meant to satisfy discerning palates.

While signature cuisines and delicacies of Diamond Hotel served at The Cake Club are proved to be noteworthy, it is the line up of their best selling cakes that take the spotlight.  And to complete the ultimate sweet experience they give to their customers, The Cake Club also offers luscious homemade ice cream of different flavors!

Our recent dinner at The Cake Club Bonifacio High Street was a saccharine overdrive which left a big smile on my face even days after.  Having tasted 10 of their best selling cakes and 10 best selling homemade ice creams after a hearty dinner was the best kind of initiation to any club there is.

Binulo Restaurant at Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Its color is that of a sad sunset refusing to let go of the gleaming sky.  I stared as it slides down slowly out of the bamboo called Bulo.  A golden breath of aroma leaped out as each freshwater prawn with glistening shell made its way from the bamboo reed to the immaculate pot.  Dining at Binulo Restaurant located at Clark Freeport Zone Pampanga yields a beautiful kind of epiphany and echoes a tradition as beautiful as history.

When I cut through the head of the plump prawn and separate it from its body, the prawn’s delicate and creamy curdy fat invitingly stared at me. The flow of sour broth stained with a translucent shade of mandarin seeped underneath its shell to moisten its flabby flesh.  There was a subtle resistance to the bite making the flesh bouncy with interplay of sourness from the broth and delicate sweetness that the prawn naturally has.

Faultless is a rather dangerous superlative I rarely use, if not at all, when it comes to describing a restaurant experience.  Yet, all hands down to Binulo Restaurant, as there couldn’t be any other word that will aptly describe how our dinner went that night. Although Binulo also specializes in U.S. grilled steak, our host opted to go local that night. This led us to a feast of Kapampangan cuisine, tradition, history, and then some.

Balkan Yugoslavian Home Cooking

Tuesday, March 27, 2012
If you are like me, whose definition of an ordinary day is waking up with your sense of inner carnivore creating a havoc to your cravings asking for some adventurous no non-sense meaty food tripping, Balkan Yugoslavian Home Cooking along Perea St. in Makati City can be your salvation.

A spot which specializes in Yugoslavian Home Cooking can be a tad daunting to some who is unfamiliar to such. But fret not, because once a forkful of mean meaty goodness hit your palate, dude, you’re on a roll.

While the menu consists mostly of meat, vegetables were also thrown in for a good measure. Read on and see for yourself what we have feasted on during our recent dinner at Balkan. Notice how it can be downright hardcore in terms of meaty dishes, but believe me when I say that dining at Balkan isn’t heart attack waiting to happen.  In fact, it’ll show that dishes like these are worthy to live for.

Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge at The Fort

Tuesday, March 20, 2012
Stepping inside Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge during dinner time could give you an illusion that you are transported in some place where mafia-like gentlemen on their sleek coats hold a glass of hard drinks on one hand, and the rest of the world on the other. Although tagged as one of the hippiest place to party come late night where beers and cocktail drinks come in a full swing to take center stage, when it comes to food, Relik means serious business.

Tucked at the second floor of Commercenter Building at The Fort, Relik exudes an aesthetically pleasing ambiance in a rustic kind of way.  Its interior laden with vintage stuff which further makes the place classy without overbearing. Truth be told, the place can be a bit intimidating at a glance, but once you settled on your seat and start the feast of the palate, in a blink of an eye, it is suddenly there ~ the sense of belonging.

LuLu Restaurant at Rockwell

Wednesday, March 7, 2012
The delicate hue of the lobster meat pontifically sitting on top of pureed avocado with its peaceful shade shyly announcing its presence against the immaculate back drop was a sight to behold.  The glinting caviar on top serves as its crown in which well deserved glory was bestowed.  The creamy taste of the ripe avocado introduced me to the season when it was picked at its perfect ripeness which further nudged the lobster into tasting like the sea in a beautiful summer afternoon.

We have just started with our amuse bouche at LuLu Restaurant one Saturday afternoon in Rockwell and I am already blown away.
Located at the ground floor of Joya Tower in Rockwell, LuLu Restaurant offers variety of dishes in beautifully executed fusion of flavors leaving their diners with choices to fit their lifestyle. I would love for you to stay with me and read on, but please don't say that I didn't warn you because this post spells, FOOD PORN.

Lifestyle: Spa Journey at Toccare Spa, Best Western Antel Spa Suites in Makati City

Monday, March 5, 2012
Amidst busy schedules and maddening workloads, I believe that nothing beats a blissful 4.5 hours of spa journey sealed by delectable dinner. Spa and gastronomical adventure in one could spell heaven on earth in my book. That was what my mother and I experienced at Toccare Spa.

Aptly called "Half-day Spa Experience", it is one of the spa packages offered by Tocarre Spa in which trained spa specialists will design specific package from their line of spa services in one session that suits the need of their guests.

To complete the entire spa journey that lasts for approximately 4.5 hours, delectable set of meal will be served after. I have experienced quite a number of spa services but nothing beats the one I had at Toccare. If you want to know how my spa journey went with my mom, I suggest that you read on.

Queso de Bola Cheesecake of Indulgence by Irene

Sunday, March 4, 2012
Indulgence by Irene’s Queso de Bola Cheesecake has been the talk of some of our foodie friends for weeks now.  So, it’s easy for me to write about it by reiterating that yes, it has created quite a stir especially to most of the foodies I know.  But that is already a given fact.

So instead, allow me to get personal by saying that the Queso de Bola Cheesecake of Indulgence by Irene was one of the most challenging food I have ever photographed. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves with that statement, I have reasons, if you read on, you will know. I promise.

Uratex Ready-Wrap Containers

Thursday, March 1, 2012
Of the many household brands I grew up with, Uratex is definitely one of those I consider synonymous to good quality.  Our family relocated for quite a number of times already and we still find ourselves sleeping on the quality mattresses bearing the same brand.  Our mono block chairs at home have witnessed countless of gatherings especially if there weren’t enough chairs available for our guests.  We are talking about years of service here, so I guess it is safe to say that products like that spells durability and comfort.
When our friends at Uratex sent some samples of their Ready-Wrap Containers, I did not hesitate to feature it here at YedyLicious, since I am happy with the economical solution it provided me in terms of storing and packaging.  I used it during the time I hosted a mini picnic for my nephew and I am still using it now for some stuff which would otherwise haphazardly occupy valuable space on our pantry.

Inauguration of ISTITUTO CULINARIO

Thursday, February 23, 2012
After the tour at Istituto Culinario our guide Chef Chris led us to Celebrity Chef Cyrille Soenen’s Brasserie CiÇou where the party was happening that night.

Located at the ground floor of OB Montesorri building, Brasserie CiÇou is where the Istituto Culinario’s internship program will be held.  During the launching party, everyone feasted on different variety of French dishes prepared by the chefs and the students of the institution.

Real Culinary Art Begins at ISTITUTO CULINARIO

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Last Saturday, February 18, 2012 the newest and most innovative culinary institution, Istituto Culinario officially opened its door by celebrating its inauguration night filled with fun, good food, and excitement.

Held at its affiliated restaurant Brasserie CiCou of Celebrity Chef Cyrille Soenen, the party started after guests were given a tour of the campus.  I will dish out some scenes during the party on my next blog post, but for now allow me to share with you my passport and have a glimpse of the training ground of our future culinary maestros.

Mary Grace Cafe, Greenbelt 2

Friday, February 17, 2012

I always believe that aesthetic component of a restaurant adds pleasure to the entire dining experience.  I guess that is why I am a sucker for beautiful interiors.  Yet, there are times when dining al fresco sounds rather enticing.  Sadly not all of my favorite restaurants offer outside dining areas.  But the few who does are all impressive. Take for example Tatung’s Café and Bag of Beans.  Good thing that my recent visit to Mary Grace Café at Greenbelt 2 gave me a chance to have an addition to my short list of restaurants with beautiful outdoor dining area.

I was dead set on skipping an afternoon snack that day since my friend D and I were scheduled to attend a dinner.  Yet, upon seeing how lovely the ambiance at Mary Grace Café, we decided otherwise.

My Take on Food at P.F. Chang's in Alabang Town Center

Thursday, February 16, 2012
When I wrote about P.F. Chang’s China Bistro Media Launch last month, questions from friends and some readers came rushing in asking me if the dishes they serve were any good. Most of them live far from Alabang Town Center and they wondered if it’s worth the travel hence, they sought opinion. Days after its opening which somehow created a noise in most of social media platform, mixed reactions from people were very apparent.
Some said that the food at P.F. Chang’s Philippines are nowhere near as good as the one they serve in other countries, while the others commented that they are satisfied and happy with it. I have not eaten in any branch of P.F. Chang’s aside from the one in Alabang; so technically, I do not have point of comparison.

If you want a blow by blow comparison of how good P.F. Chang’s here in our country as compare to its other branches, then I cannot give you that as of yet. But if you just want to know my opinion which focuses mainly on food that P.F. Chang’s, particularly in Alabang Town Center serves, then please feel free to read on.

Marriott Manila Sunday Brunch Buffet

Saturday, February 11, 2012
Last week, together with fellow bloggers, we visited Marriot Hotel at Newport City Complex, Pasay City to try their Marriott Café’s Sunday Brunch Buffet. The recent expansion on their buffet spread selections led foodies to a festive brunch which made rising early that day well worth it.

(One of my many plates) Perfectly seared foei gras, medium well rib-eye steak, grilled calamari, mashed potato, and grilled vegetable.  How’s that for a brunch?

How Do I Want My Valentine's Day to be Special

Friday, February 10, 2012

In a perfect world, every single person would have a grand time with their significant other especially during Valentine’s Day.  Everyone can feel like a princess with her prince, a queen with her king, or even a damsel in distress with a man who can save her.  Valentine’s Day can be a celebration of hearts beating as one.  It is the time when perfection is illuminated through hearts that doesn’t carry a single scar.

But we are not in a perfect world.

In reality, hearts can be broken a thousand times over.  Wounds can take a lifetime to heal.  Valentine’s day, well, it can be a reminder that not everyone is blessed with a significant other.

Scar.  I know we all have that.

I for one am not exempted with the endless nights of crying, forgetting, and healing.  I have been scarred for countless of times.  Some have already healed, while others I still carry in my heart.

But I believe that scar is beautiful because it carries a meaning.

Sweet Valentine Treats by Max's Restaurant and Max's Corner Bakery

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

I know I’ve been delinquent in posting updates here in my blog for the past five days, but I sincerely apologize my dear readers as I am currently nursing a mean flu. I am on my sick bed while I am writing this but I don’t mind at all because our friends at Max’s Restaurant, home of the “sarap-to-the-bones” fried chicken has sweet news, worthy to dish out.

Last night, February 7, 2011.  Max’s Restaurant launched its most romantic line of desserts just in time for the Valentine's season.  I give credit to my sister Eichel who attended the launching night full of sweet surprises and scrumptious Max’s dishes as they unveiled their sweet and heartwarming treats for their valued customers.

ITALIANNI'S Restaurant, Reacquainting with the Old Time Favorite

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Way back when I wasn’t a food blogger yet, Italianni's was one of those restaurants I always go to whenever I am cravings for Italian food.  Way before I fell in love with Bellini’s and Amoroma, there’s Italiannis to flirt my appetite and my palate with.

Then life happens.  I got into food blogging which led me into trying out different restaurants I haven’t visited yet.  For a while I wasn’t able to visit some of those which I used to frequent to.  That includes Italianni's.   But I always knew that whenever I want something relatively familiar to my palate, there’s always Italianni's.

Amidst trying out and discovering new places to dine in, there are moments when I knew by heart that I need to revisit my old time favorite.  Good thing that when a good friend and fellow food enthusiast I dearly call Tito Bong, who came from Qatar visited the country weeks ago, I was once again led to Italianni's.  It was a simple albeit wonderful evening shared with good friends I haven’t seen for quite a while, in a restaurant I dearly missed.

Bread & Bean Cafe: More Than Just Freshly Baked Breads

Monday, January 30, 2012

If you have read my post about Bread & Bean Café along J. Abad Santos St. in San Juan, you probably have an idea how I consider this café as one of those I hold dear to my heart. It has always been one of those I frequent to when I was still in college up to now that I am already working.
Needless to say, it has always been one of the few places I always feel at home. Memories have been accumulated all these years of my countless visits at the café. People whom I have shared a meal or two at Bread and Bean has come and go. Some remains, while others, well, they will always be remembered. Just like the fragments of memories I choose to carry with me, there dishes available at Bread and Bean Café that remains to be on the list of my favorites.

Jasmine, New World Hotel in Makati City

Yesterday I shared with you the Ultimate 18 Treasure Feast we had at New World Hotel’s Jasmine Restaurant in Makati City. It’s one of their special lunch and dinner menus that are available from January 18 to 30, 2012. Located at the 2nd floor of New World Hotel in Makati City, Jasmine boast of its authentic Cantonese fare coupled with impeccable service in an elegant ambiance.  A marriage between modern flair and oriental style, Jasmine’s interior mirrors the aesthetic sense that will play in your palate in every dish that they offer.

Binondo Food Wok with Ivan Man Dy

Monday, January 16, 2012

Nothing beats being introduced to the place full of rich cultural heritage and history while eating your way through them.  That is what I have experienced at the start of this year when I joined fellow foodies at The Binondo Food Wok with Ivan Man Dy of The Old Manila Walks.

Binondo Food Wok with Ivan Man Dy, Binondo Food Trip, Restaurants in Binondo Ongpin Chinatown Manila Philippines Food Blog YedyLicious

When we were told that our tour isn’t going to be the popular tried and tested Big Binondo Food Wok but rather a tour of Ivan’s personal favorite just in time for the Lunar New Year, I knew that I needed to extend my holiday vacation. On January 23, we will be celebrating Chinese New Year that is why I deemed joining the tour couldn’t be more apt.

Lifestyle and Beauty: BROWHAUS Manila

This is the first time that I am going to write about beauty and lifestyle since I did a bit of revamp here on my blog (noticed my blog header?). I have been receiving invites from everywhere asking me to try their service and products not food related. So I guess now is the best time for me to give way and share my thoughts on these things to you my dear readers. I hope you stay with me as I tip toe my way slowly into expanding my blog. But do not worry, since YedyLicious is still primarily a food blog, I will always be dishing out all things delicious as we all eat our way through living the good life.

Juan Carlo the Caterer at The Weddings and Debuts Bridal Fair 2012

Sunday, January 15, 2012
For years now I have been hearing about Juan Carlo the Caterer. From friends who have become their clients for years now, to others who constantly rave about them after experiencing their superb food and wonderful service. I have attended an event before in which Juan Carlo The Caterer provided the service. I was impressed from the get go. Same goes for the others who was was on the same event.
When our friends from Nuffnang Philippines invited me to attend Wedding Library’s Weddings and Debuts Bridal Fair 2012 Press Conference held at Plaza Ibarra last January 12.  I have once again able to witness how Juan Carlo the Caterer pleased the guests with their delectable dishes and suberb service.

Gong Cha Philippines is Now Open at Il Terrazzo Tomas Morato, Quezon City

Friday, January 13, 2012

When my friend D and I decided to have a dinner last night at Banapple in Il Terrazzo, Tomas Morato, I was happy to know that they already moved their store to a much bigger place. Still at the second floor of Il Terrazo, but this time they are occupying the space right beside their original location. While I am happy about this move, what made me happier is that the seventh store of Gong Cha Philippines is now occupying the space Banapple used to occupy

They opened last January 11, 2012 and they are still on a soft opening as of yet.
Gong Cha Philippines, Il Terrazzo BUilding, Tomas Morato, Quezon City
I had my first try of Gong Cha Milk Teas at their SM North Edsa Branch and decided to visit again to try their other drinks. It didn’t materialize since most of their branches are far from where I am residing, except from SM Megamall which I don’t usually frequent to. Good thing that they opened a branch at Tomas Morato, a place I usually visit if I want to go crazy with many options of restaurants to dine in.

New and Improved FERSAL HOTEL, A Relaxing Experience at the Heart of the City!

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Recently, amidst the craziness brought about by the holiday season, I came into a point wherein I would willingly give out a limb in exchange of one night of relaxation away from everything that I was busy with. That time I knew I needed an escape. A break. Good thing that I was able to schedule myself to an overnight stay at the Makati site of the new and improved Fersal Hotel.
FERSAL HOTEL in Neptune St. Makati
Given the rather hectic schedule that I had and other tons of tasks at hand during that time, booking myself a flight somewhere far would spell irresponsibility.  The proximity of Fersal Hotel in Neptune St. Makati from where I am residing is just enough for me to feel that I am far enough to have a breathing space from the usual, but near enough not to spend the entire time I have allotted for my escape on the road.

Yes, It's More Fun in the Philippines!

Sunday, January 8, 2012

I guess by now my dear readers all of you have probably seen the Department of Tourism’s campaign, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”.

I sincerely believe in it.

That being said, just like some of our fellow Filipinos, I am showing my support by heeding to DOT’s call to help in spreading the awareness to this campaign. (Read Anton’s post about it here)

I believe that this step is not just following through a bandwagon out of sheer force of habit.  Instead, this is something that must be supported despite the negative criticism, because this is for our country.

Besides, it’s FUN to think of some reasons out of thousands or more why you believe that indeed, #ItsMoreFUNinthePhilippines

Cocoa Cheese Froth at Teaberi

Saturday, January 7, 2012
You probably have an idea by now how Happy Lemon rocked my world, specifically their Cocoa with Rock salt and Cheese.  While I am crazy about milk teas in general, these drinks boasting of cheese on top are something I couldn’t bend my conscience quite enough to ignore.  When I visited Teaberi in Makati recently, it was their Cocoa Cheese Froth which got my attention.

Located beside David’s Tea House just right outside the Makati A.Venue Mall, Teaberi is a new player in the field of milk tea shops which I find promising.

Sparkling New Year Party at Pan Pacific Hotel Manila

Thursday, January 5, 2012

I was supposed to write about a teaser about the grand dining experiences ( mind the plural ) I had at Pan Pacific Hotel Manila  but I decided to give way to this post first because our friends from Pan Pacific Manila enthusiastically shared with us the wonderful and sparkling new year’s party they had as they welcomed 2012.

No, I wasn’t able to take part of the celebration because as tradition dictates, I was with my family at home cooking up more than 12 dishes before the clock strikes 12.  ( do you guys also practice this belief?  12 dishes to represent each month of the year, much better if more than 12 for a prosperous year.  We do. All the time. Tiring, but fun.)

[BORACAY] Don Vito Ristorante Italiano at Boracay Mandarin Island Hotel

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

During the time I visited Boracay and stayed at Boracay Mandarin Island Hotel, I was faced with a grain of truth that I hold on to as a foodie; Don Vito Ristorante Italiano is one of the restaurants one should not missed when in Boracay. Awarded as one of The Best Restaurants of 2011 by the Philippine Tatler, Don Vito serves authentic Italian dishes in the beautiful Island where most beautiful and enjoyable experiences are bound to happen.

Moshi Koshi Noodle Boss

Monday, January 2, 2012

If Moshi Koshi along Shaw Blvd. is the Noodle Boss, I am willing to be a noodle slave.

This new Japanese Diner which specializes in fresh noodles is a new player in the field that foodies and non foodies alike should not be missed. For those who have penchant for noodles, you may find a new favorite in Moshi Koshi.

The Shape of Things to Come, Welcome 2012!

Sunday, January 1, 2012

2011 was good, but 2012 is going to be so INCREDIBLY AWESOME AND BLESSED that 2011 will be very jealous of it.

That, I know for sure.

Delicious 2012 to you, my foodie friends!
