Gloria Maris

May 08, 2012

One of the many reasons why I love living in San Juan City is its proximity to most of the restaurants I love. Take for example Gloria Maris. There's one at Wilson St. and another one near Greenhills Shopping Center. One of the well-loved and most recognized Chinese restaurants by Filipino, Gloria Maris is known for serving home-grown and unique selection of Chinese cuisine.

For someone who has deep affinity for Chinese cuisine, things like this matter, believe me. Especially when your ultimate favorite Chinese restaurant is located in Binondo, which I consider really far, it is comforting to know that there are restaurants like Gloria Maris I could go to whenever intense cravings for Chinese cuisine hit me.

While I am happy with the dimsum they serve at Mr. Choi Kitchen, when it comes to roasting combination and noodles (especially noodles) I would choose Gloria Maris in a heartbeat.

The thing I love about Maris is the consistency in their food. I cannot remember any dish which I didn't like at Gloria Maris. They serve good dimsum the same way they serve good noodles, viands, seafood, chicken, beef, and other things gracing their menu.  Common problem with some Chinese restaurants I have been to is that while they are good at one thing, they fall short when it comes to another.

Dimsum and dumplings are just some of the dishes that Gloria Maris is known for. They offer dimsum buffet and packages from time to time but it is usually their Dimsum Platter I usually order so that I could have a taste of variety without going over budget.

When it comes to Birthday Noodles, Gloria Maris' servings is the best I have tried by far.  Packed with generous toppings and savory sauce, this noodle is graced almost every visit I paid at Gloria Maris.

Another favorite is their Roasting Combination Platter. One couldn't go wrong with servings of roast duck, asado pork, pata hamon, seaweeds, and century egg in one big platter to satisfy one's palate and tummy.

Other dishes I highly recommend when visiting Gloria Maris are roast duck, steamed crab with garlic, seafood cake, and beef with broccoli among many others.  Their butchi and taho are also one of those that should not be missed.
While I love their Wilsons branch since it is nearer to where I reside, it is their branch in Greenhills area that I usually frequent to. The place is big enough to cater to different functions and occasions. Both branches offer promo packages which suits varied needs of their customers. Reservation is recommended.
