Empanada MAS, Hand-rolled Gourmet Empanadas

June 01, 2012
Of the many snacks that I grew to love all these years, empanada is definitely one which I will definitely never get tired eating. I have few favorites empanadas and after trying out Emapanda Mas recently, it immediately tops my list.

The combination of traditional way of making the empanadas and its innovative flair in creating one-of-a-kind empanada filling only steeled my resolve that Empanada Mas Hand-rolled Gourmet Empanadas is by far the best empanada in Manila.

As a family-owned business, secret heirloom recipe for traditional Filipino-Spanish hand-rolled empanadas has been handed down for five generations already. Needless to say, Empanada Mas has mastered the league in pleasing even the most discerning palate.

Aptly tag as Hand-rolled Gourmet Empanadas, these little bunch of goodie snacks are carefully crafted with the use of all-natural ingredients, no preservatives, and are cooked fresh everyday using 100% cholesterol-free vegetable oil.

One remarkable thing about Emapanda Mas which I find rather endearing is the fact that it is thin crusted and heavy on the filling. Regardless of the flavors, one can expect an overflowing treat inside. Available in regular size and bite size called empanaditas.

Flavors such as Classic Chicken, Classic Pork, Spinach and Cream Cheese, Spanish Style Chorizo, and Ham and Jalapeno are available for their regular size empanadas.

The Classic Chicken Empanada is as good as any classic can get. Combination of shreds of chicken, potatoes, green peas, and raisins.  The Ham and Cheese Jalapeno is their spicy variants as it combines the kick of spiced ham and jalapeno peppers. It has the right amount of spice on it accompanied with the creaminess of the cheddar cheese.

The Spinach and Cream Cheese Empanada is my favorite among all the flavors.  The distinct taste of the Spinach without the bitterness and the divine texture of the cream cheese goes perfectly well together. Every bite lends a beautiful bend from the usual meaty empanada we are used to.

The Spanish Style Chorizo empanada is yet another flavor I enjoyed. It has a mildly intense kick as compare to the Ham and Cheese Jalapeno but more savory.  The Classic Pork Empanada I find very filling. It is a combination of minced pork, potatoes, and raisins.

Empanada Mas' empanaditas are perfect for those who wants to take everything in a pop. These bite size empanaditas can easily fit into one's palm. But regardless of the size, it is also packed with flavors from its filling.

Fillings available for their empanaditas are Cheddar Cheese, Semi-Sweet Chocolate, Cream Cheese & Chives, Peanut Butter Fudge.  Aside from these they also introduce premium seasonal flavors from time to time such as Nutella and just recently, the Banana Butterscotch. While I love most of the flavors, it was the Cream Cheese & Chives that suits to my liking.

The regular size emapanadas are priced at Php30 a piece, Php180 for half a dozen, and Php360 for one dozen. You can choose assorted flavors if you purchase the half or one dozen package. While the empanaditas are priced at Php40 per half a dozen, Php200 for box of 30, and Php400 for box of 60. You can also choose assorted flavors for their empanaditas not including the premium flavors which has different pricing.

Premium coffees, combo meals, and Frittas (crispy and light cookies sprinkled with powdered sugar) are also available on their kiosks.

Needless to say, I am really impressed with Empanada Mas. It is the kind of snack I would want to have from time to time considering that it is very affordable and can be eaten on the go.
