Mooncake Treat and more at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila

Mooncake is a pastry originated from China which is considered as an indispensable pastry during Mid-Autumn festival.  It is made of crust with rich thick filling and yolk from salted duck eggs in the center.  Tradition dictates that moon cakes are best shared and eaten during this festival.

Ongoing until the 30th of September 2012, Edsa Shangri-La Manila offers majestic mooncakes, stays, and dining specials in line with their celebration for Mid-Autumn Festival of the Chinese calendar.

The hotel’s Chinese restaurant, Summer Palace is offering special mooncake packages available daily from 7:30am to 9:30pm at the Moon Cake Counter in the hotel’s main lobby.

Each mooncakes is wrapped and sealed individually inside embroidered silk boxes of red, gold, or royal purple, in a rectangular, square, and deluxe double-tiered shapes.  The mooncakes are available in seven flavorful varieties; white lotus seed regular and reduced sugar, red bean, mixed nuts, green tea, chestnut, and pandan. Of all the flavors I have tried, chestnut is definitely my favorite.

When buying this special mooncake package, you can mix and match variety of flavors depending to your liking. There are also different kinds of packaging in which you can choose from. A rectangular-shaped box containing eight mooncakes is available for Php1,688, a square-shaped box containing four large mooncakes is at Php1,888, and a deluxe double-tiered silk box that swings open to reveal partitions for eight large mooncakes is priced at Php3,688.

Also until September 30, 2012, Edsa Shangri-La Manila offers Mid-Autumn Stay-over package.  This package starts at Php6,988 per night inclusive of buffet breakfast for two at HEAT, a welcome gift of eight mooncakes in the rectangular-shaped gift box, unlimited wireless access, and a complimentary buffet meals for two children under six years old.
