Vikings Luxury Buffet, tagged by many foodies as one of the Best Buffets in Manila celebrates the Fourth of July by adding and highlighting special menu boasting of special American dishes every weekend of this month.  This month long celebration holds a promise that in all branches of Vikings Luxury Buffet, new dishes will be added to the buffet spread. To make it more exciting, new menu additions will vary in each and every Vikings Buffet branches.

This week, I got a preview of the new menu which will be rolled out at Vikings Buffet in SM Marikina. Headed by Vikings Buffet Markina Executive Chef Jenny Gumboc with the aid of Sous Chef Gerard Torre and Pastry Chef Michael Ecogo (not in photo), a special American menu set was developed and will soon hit the already enticing selections of the buffet for the diners to enjoy.

Vikings Buffet branches is known to carry different themes on its store design and interior to achieve distinction in every Vikings location. Vikings Luxury Buffet at Sm Marikina holds that homey ambiance that makes the dining experience laid back and relaxed. The buffet selection at this branch however is anything but laid back as it still carries the luxurious and abundant dishes known for Vikings Buffet. 

This month, the selections are made all the more abundant and exciting with the addition of Vikings Fourth of July menu to be enjoyed every weekend for the whole month of July. The samples of the dishes served to us were plated but these items will be included on the buffet spread alongside all the other dishes which are already staple on the selections.

Beer Battered Chicken with Honey Mustard Tortilla Wrap

Chunks of deep fried chicken breast coated with beer batter serves as the main star of this dish. However, not to be overshadow are the other ingredients such as the cucumber, tomato, iceberg lettuce, onion, mango, and the honey mustard dressing that bind the flavor together. The flour tortilla that serves as its casing is freshly made in-house making it soft, chewy, and filling at the same time.

American Dream Maki

A trio of maki rolls each representing known places in the United States; Philadelphia, New York, and Alaska making the well-loved sushi, sashimi, and maki station at Vikings all the more bountiful and exciting.

Philadelphia Maki includes salmon, cream cheese, cucumber, and spring onion wrapped in Japanese rice and nori seaweeds topped with a thin slice of salmon drizzled with teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. New York Maki is the combination of salmon, apple, and white sesame seed topped with tempura flakes infused with green color and sme ebiko. The Alaska Maki on the other hand is the combination of salmon, avocado, and cucumber topped with jalapeno, green onion.

Farmers Salad

A simple salad at a glance which can be easily pass off as a bread spread, Farmers Salad in terms of flavor is anything but simple. The complexity of its taste spring forth from the combination of diced ham, corn, carrot, onion, bell pepper, mixed with thousand island dressing.

Alaskan Salmon Chowder

A hearty soup meant to be savored up to the last drop, Alaskan Salmon Chowder has a right balance in its consistency, not too thick nor too watery. The flavor speaks of salon taste balanced by cream. Perfect combination is a bread, but even on its absence, this soup is impressive in itself.

Pan-Seared Salmon in Bearnaise Sauce with  Sun Dried Tomato and Wild Mushroom Fetuccine

The fettucine pasta which boats of a mild taste of sun dried tomato and mushroom taste is already a meal in itself, and a filling one at that. Yet, the addition of perfectly seared salmon takes it to a whole different level of satisfyingly impressive dish. The bearnaise sauce added depth of flavor to the entire deal making it a tad creamy.

Country Style Smoked Peppered Pork Ribs with Green Beans and Caramelized Onion

These is not your fall-off-the-bone-kind-of-ribs. However, it does not negate the fact that its smokey flavor and the push and pull between savory and sweet are delightfully apparent. It is the kind of dish that you wouldn't mind getting your hands dirty with since it is meant to be eaten with gusto especially for those who has affinity for a good tasting ribs.

Chuck Eye Roll with Cream of Pepper Sauce served with American Cajun Potato Wedges and Grilled Corn on a Cob

A manly dish best eaten with manly appetite, this steak, although it may look well done in the photo, boasts if pinkish hue when cut through. It's tenderness is one thing well worth the praise, but the flavor is the star that cannot go unnoticed. Paired with grilled corn for a more filling experience, and some Cajun potato wedges for an added kick in terms of taste. The cream pepper sauce can be a delightful addition, but a perfectly cooked steak just like this can shine on its own.

Seattle Coffee Walnut Cake

I am never a fan of chiffon cake but this one is an exception since it is devoid of the dryness I despise in chiffon. Every bite sets me under the impression that the cake was somehow soaked in coffee due to its apparent flavor. The crushed walnuts make it interesting texture-wise.

New York Cheesecake 

What was served to us was topped with blueberry sauce, but even in its absence, this cheesecake is definitely one of the decent ones I have had served on restaurant buffets (not counting the hotel buffets, of course). It has the dense texture which makes it more filling. The flavor on the other hand has the right balance between tangy and sweet.

Choco Banana Mousse

The taste is reminiscent of a banoffee pie especially that it has crushed graham underneath. The texture is soft owing to the fact that it is indeed a mousse. The flavor is very suggestive of banana balanced off by chocolate and cream.

As previously mentioned, these items will only be highlighted at Vikings Luxury Buffet SM Marikina branch every weekends. Other branches will roll out set of 4th of July menu different than this one. This, in my opinion is a great treat for buffet lovers out there especially that Vikings Buffet recently slashed off its weekend rate from Php1,088 to Php888.
