KFC Pizza Twister

When I saw KFC's advertisement for their new Toasted Twister claiming that it's chicken and pizza in one, I thought that KFC Chicken once again rocked a new role and I knew I got to try it.

True enough, it's a combination of chicken breast strips, pizza sauce, salami, onions, and mozzarella cheese wrapped in a warm flour tortilla that seals in the flavor, it is indeed Chicken and Pizza in one.

The taste is good, a real treat for those who love chicken and pizza. The chicken breast strip is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, while the pizza sauce is very subtle and it does not overpower the taste of the chicken. However, be sure to eat it while it's still warm, and if not, you can just toss it inside the toaster and enjoy it to your heart's content.

On the other hand, the packaging is quite deceiving I must say. They use big rectangular box which resembles that of Mc. Donald’s Apple Pie box, only it is much bigger, considering that the chicken isn't enough to make the twister look bulky and heavy compare to the other twister varieties which has lettuce and other veggies that makes it hefty. Therefore, it only illuminates the thinness of the twister.

The new KFC Toasted Twister is 75php per piece, and for those who has big appetite, I don't think that a piece is enough to satisfy your hunger so be sure to grab some fries along with it, or better yet, buy two because it's worth it.

P99 Value Steaks at Tenderoast

Walking at Araneta Center Cubao, near Shopwise, one of the thing that you can notice are the banners spread along the aisle inviting people to try Tenderoast’s 99pesos Value Steaks. Yes. Steak. For 99 pesos. Who would want to pass? Not me.

It was one of those idle Saturday mornings and Anjo and I were looking for a resto to spend our lunch time when these banners caught our attention. Naturally, we gave in.

Tenderoast Cubao branch was opened last March of this year. From what I remember, It was the same resto who replaced my most loved hang out place called Allegro at Wynsum Corporate Plaza in Ortigas, that was year 2006. I wasn’t able to try eating at their Ortigas Branch simply because I was too upset that Allegro isn’t there anymore.

Fast forward to 2009, I resolved to try this resto and see what it can offer since their advertisement is too hard to resist.

We ordered for their 99pesos Value Stake to satisfy our curiosity. Well, actually, 99php is the value of steak itself (with rice of course), but for 145php, there will be a drink and a dessert that will come with your steak, so we opt for that instead.

The steak, I must say lived up to its price. It is worth 99php, what can we expect? The taste is so-so, something that I can cook my own at home, considering that I am not that great of a cook. Yes, it is tender; the gravy is good, but all in all, there is nothing special about it. Again, it is worth 99php, I can’t complain.

Surprisingly, despite the mediocre taste of the steak, the dessert pulled it off. Anjo got the cookies and cream mousse, while I got the chocolate mousse which taste like mocha for me. Although they look like something you can snag at some local bakeshop-on-the-corner, these wonderful little desserts really taste good, we savor every spoonful of it.

The Roast Beef Sandwich with Gravy Dip is good, only, it can be better with some lettuce and other veggies on it. I don’t really know why they need to have a gravy dip on it when it can stand on its own as a sandwich. For the price of 59php, it really has to be some veggies on it.

The place, since it is relatively new, is well kept. The food server, are very accommodating, as well as the manager who assisted me in transferring to another table at the smoking area although I am just carrying a glass of Iced Tea.

All in all, it was not that disappointing in the same way that it was not that impressive. Since they are relatively new in the area, they could use a little improvement to attract more customers.

Hot Pandesal and Arabica Coffee

It's a Monday morning, non-working holiday, and it's raining. For some who was not able to booked an out of town vacation for the long weekend that was, it's a good chance to have an extra day of rest, wherein you have all the rights to be as humanly lazy as possible. And since is not good to skip breakfast, there's the good old nearby bakeshop out there for hot pandesal and the coffee maker which we can rely on should this laziness to pop something on the stove and pan get the better of us.

Since dipping your hot pandesal into your coffee is so 1989, there are many spreads available in the market to choose from which you can stack into your fridge. Personally, since I am way to past the pandesal and condensed milk tandem (am I the only one who enjoyed this?), cheese has become one of the best thing on the list.

Magnolia Cream Cheese has always been my favorite. I can pair it with any bread available in our kitchen and it is sinfully satisfying. It is not overwhelming as it doesn’t have a strong taste compare to other cream cheese I tried with pandesal. A bottle is around 115php, and it is good to last for a couple of weeks just as long as you keep it refrigerated. Of course, you can use it with other dishes aside from making a sandwich so; it is definitely worth the money.

Another favorite is Cheez Whiz Pizza Flavor. My sister bought one for her Deep Fried Zucchini one time, and so the left over was used on either tasty bread or pandesal. The original flavor of Cheez Whiz is good enough, but this pizza flavor adds new dimension to cheese lover like me. The taste of the pizza is there, but one just have to go a little easy on spreading this one because it can get too salty when used in excessive amount. A medium size bottle is 78php.

Lastly, the Laughing Cow cheese. It comes wrapped in the individual serving-sized foiled wedges, packed in a round, flat box, 8 pcs. in a box is sold in the market for 80php. It is a processes cheese originated in France which is so white I have mistaken it for a cream cheese and its taste is so delicate it goes well with the pandesal.

Now, for coffee, although I normally prefer Sumatra, when my mother bought Yuban Arabica Coffee, I fell in love with it. This aromatic coffee has a perfect blend of strong and nutty flavor which is sure to wake you up with all its distinct taste and freshness.

This kind of laid back breakfast is a sure way to start the day right. Now, you have all the energy to spend the entire day with a good book, or a DVD marathon.

Greenwich Special Pizza Overload

Greenwich Pizza has been in the market for years now, but I can say that I was never a fan. In those years, no single thing on their menu impressed me that much. Until recently, my sister talk me into trying out their new line of Pizza called Overloaded.

When I give in, I thought to myself, no wonder that despite their strong competitors, Greenwich has managed to stay in the business for years now.

Although they offer wide variety of Overload Pizza, I chose their Greenwich Special Overload as a starter.
I must say that the taste did improve from the time I first tasted their regular Greenwich Special. It is now seasoned well and no longer as oily as it was before. And since it is Overloaded, it is jam-packed with toppings, meaning, three times more premium meats, fresh veggies, and 100 percent Mozzarella cheese toppings.

If you're the type who easily gets overwhelmed by the explosion of different taste on your buds, their rolled-thick crust is sure to even out the taste. But the new Greenwich Overloaded Pizzas are also available in thin crust variety and square shaped thin crust, which can serve 6-8 people and are still guaranteed to fill big appetites. Sizes available are double and family size.

Having tasted this, I guess I'll try other Overloaded Pizza Varieties as they look as promising as this one.
