Bag of Beans Tagaytay City, Revisited

December 02, 2011
They say that in a perfect world broken heart, dampen spirit, and bruised ego can be healed by a sip of caramel macchiato or a bite or two of your favorite cheesecake.  We are not in a perfect world.  We are far from it.  But the wonder of life lies in the endless beautiful possibilities despite imperfections.  And who says that we cannot create our own perfect world amidst the chaos?  No matter how tough things that life can deal with us, there are ways to heal.  Always.

Most of the saddest moments in my life, Tagaytay City is probably one place I always find myself ending up at.  Far enough to leave whatever it is that must be forgotten, but near enough to have a strong grip in the reality that I have to go back to.  There are several places in this City that I find comforting, and one of them is Bag of Beans.

I always believe that we find the good in food through looking to the entire experience.  The company, the exploration of one’s palate, the ambiance, and the remarkably unforgettable service made up a good gastronomical experience.  While I can get the same if not way impressive food at other cafes and restaurants, the entire experience at Bag of Beans is what made them occupy a special place in my heart.  This is where I can create my own perfect world where each spoonful of Apple Pie Ala Mode and Cheesecakes, and cup of my favorite coffee gives me an assurance that everything will be okay.

The gentle creaminess of the ice cream combined with the sweetness of the apple filling is what made Bag of Bean's apple Pie Ala Mode a classic favorite.  The interplay of flavor plays with the senses while the texture of the apple and the crumbs tickles your palate.

Cheesecakes from Bag of Beans may not be the best that I have tasted, but its distinct taste that screams of high quality fresh ingredients is what made them pleasing to the palate.  I love that there isn’t a hint of gelatin used to hold the mixture together.  The crust has a buttery taste that added dimension to the entire cake. The syrupy fruits on top made the cheesecake all the more pleasing both to the eye and the palate.

While I love having my cheesecake with black coffee most of the time, relaxing teas can also be a perfect combination that perfectly complements not just the cake but the relaxing ambiance of the place.

I have already tried some of their savory dishes and other pies before but given the impressive choices on their menu, there are more that I have yet to enjoy.   As of yet, it’s their Lasagna that really got me raving with cravings days and weeks after the first time I have tasted it.

After several visits, their service remains impeccably consistent.  Although the place is really spacious, calling the food attendants attention can never be a problem since there are numbers strategically assigned in every area to accommodate every customers.

The ambiance of the entire place brings you closer to nature.  There’s always a sense of peaceful quietness in the place which I find very comforting.  There are areas the customers can rent to enjoy a more private and intimate dining set up.

I guess there are just some places we all love for so many different reasons.  I love Bag of Beans because of so many memories I have with it.  Most of them concern my thousand and one ways to heal myself.  From broken heart, dampen spirit, and bruised ego.  Yes, we are not in a perfect world, but there is this place where I created mine.

Bag of Beans is located at 115 Aguinaldo Highway Mendez Crossing West, Tagaytay City. Contact numbers are (46) 413 2724 or (916) 525 2382.
