Primero Casa Filipino : Affordable Buffet in Quezon City

March 19, 2013

Recently, with some of my fellow foodies, I got to visit Primero Casa Filipino to try their dinner buffet. Located in Quezon City, Primero Casa Filipino boasts of affordable buffet deals in an upscale homey ambiance. With a new management to boot and a new marketing route to trek, we were told that this restaurant looks forward in providing a much better dining experiences for its customers.

Situated in a residential part of the Scout area in Quezon City, Primero Casa Filipino exudes a dining destination kind of place where every customer can enjoy a hearty meal in a peaceful environment, away from the buzzing sound of a busy street.

Prior to visiting the place, I have heard and read lukewarm reviews about Primero Casa even before a revamp in the management was made. I carry no expectations whatsoever when I visited them. Previous food bloggers who tried the buffet have mixed reactions which got me really curious as to how well will this buffet fares in my palate.

I find the buffet spread decent enough in terms of variety considering the dinner we had costs Php398 nett only. I cannot really tell if they are quick to replenish the spread since we started our dinner early and it was only towards the end of our dinner that people started coming in.

The dishes on the buffet spread changes daily so I cannot guarantee that you will be seeing the same items here once you visit them. Some of their patrons call in before they visit to check if their favorite items on the buffet will be served on particular day. They entertain inquiries like that so I suggest you check on them first.

First spread I checked was the appetizer section. While the spread was not as bountiful as I hoped it to be, the items I have tried were all satisfying. There were Baked Aubergine & Cumin, Tofu Cake, Lumpiang Shanghai, and Mustasa Wrap.

The Sisig Shooter was one of my favorites that night. The texture and the taste really suits my palate. I love how they served it on a bite size portion and the aesthetics in presentation was enticing.

The Fresh Lumpia Shooter was also impressive. I love how the dish tasted fresh including the peanut sauce. It was so good that I hope to find a big version of it on my next visit, but regardless, it is definitely on of the reasons why I would want to go back at Casa Primero.

The Pizza with Pesto was my least favorite among the dishes I have tried. We had it reheated before digging into it but the dough had an unpleasant texture that despite having a good topping, it was such a let down.

I almost skipped trying the Stuffed Pandesal good thing though that I was able to grabbed a piece before I head on to our table. The ground pork with tomato sauce variant was surprisingly good. It reminded me of stuffed bread that I usually get from one of my favorite coffee shops, only much smaller, but equally satisfying.

The middle section of the main dishes spread boasts of three items I enjoyed immensely. The Maya-Maya fish was perfectly steamed to my liking. I love how flavorful the fish was and I appreciate how they incorporate veggies to it because it adds distinct taste to the fish making it more savory than usual.

The zubuchon on the other hand played the lead role on my plate. The crispiness of the skin and the flavor of the meat hinting of lemongrass were downright impressive. I could spend the entire dinner alone eating just this dish and I will still get the bang for my bucks because it was that good.

The Roasted Angus Beef was great too. The meat was tender, the flavor was a reminder that it isn't just any other roast beef, and the gravy it was meant to be eaten with was a perfect combination to this meat dish.

Other main dishes on the spread includes; Chicken Fricassee, Casa Meat Sauce Pasta, and Fish Fillet Adobado which I really liked for its tangy-savory sauce and tender fillet of fish.

There were also buttered Mixed Vegetables, Pork Stew, and Tortang Gulay with Peanut Sauce (No, I didn't get to try any of these three dishes).

Now, while I skipped on the other main dishes, I had two batches of their Seafood Kare-Kare which sauce I love to bits and the Tofu and Clam Al Afillo which little kick of spicy note heightened my appetite.

The dessert section was kept rather simple. I skipped the the cakes because most of them were sponge cakes which I never really liked in the first place. There were other items such as Mini Mango Crepe, Suman Panna Cotta, Tappioca Pearls, Fruits and Chocolate Fondue, Halo-Halo Shooters, Tiramisu, and Coffee Jelly.

My feast:

Honestly, except form the pizza, everything I have tried was good. There is nothing I would really rave crazy about but considering the price of the dinner buffet, I must say it's not bad at all.

Sisig Shooter, Fresh Lumpia Shooter, Mustasa Wrap, Tofu Cake, Baked Aubergine, and Stuffed Pandesal
Sisig Shooter, Maya-maya, Zubuchon, and Roast Angus Beef
Seafood Kare-Kare and Tofu and Clam Al Afillo. I had two servings of these goodies, the first plate had Maya-maya on it.

Tiramisu, Coffee Jelly, Suman Panna Cotta, Mango Crepe. Among these desserts, it was the Tiramisu and Coffee Jelly that I liked the most.

Halo-Halo Shooters shared among our group.
Aside from their buffet offerings, Primero Casa Filipino also has a separate bar area boasting of different variety of wines and other alcoholic beverages.

Primero Casa Filipino accepts private functions and events. Function rooms are located on the second floor of the Casa and the bar area can also be used for such events. The buffet rate for weekdays is priced at Php398 nett while the weekend buffet is at Php498 nett.

All in all, my experience at Primero Casa Filipino was delightful. The buffet spreads were of decent varieties, well, decent enough for its price. The service was warm and welcoming, while the ambiance was downright impressive.
