Madison's Bistro Moderne is a new restaurant located at the ground floor of Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City. They pride themselves for serving international comfort food in a fine dining ambiance sans exorbitant price. Located next door is Madison's Delicatessen where people may buy high quality food of reasonable price.


Madison's Bistro Moderne has an ambiance that screams fine-dining restaurant from the get go. But diners should not be intimidated. This bistro does not hold a strict dress code policy, it does not aim to burn a hole in one's pocket as everything on their menu is reasonably priced, and anyone who wants to enjoy their good food is very much welcome.

Having just opened early this year, Madison's Bistro Moderne has a band of followers already. Talks in social media about this newly opened restaurant resulted to a good feedback for a business that has just started.


Their menu consist of variety of international dishes, mostly western,but not to an overwhelming numbers. A menu that boasts of great selections of dishes and impressive bar list will welcome diners to the wonderful world of gastronomic ride that Madison's Bistro Moderne offers.

Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse (Php550)

A meal at Madison's can be started with a serving or two of their Speck and Goat Cheese Mousse, their best selling appetizer. This simple yet elegant appetizer is made essentially of speck (cured meat) serving as a flavorful foil to a truffle scented goat cheese topped with apple mustard chutney and chopped walnuts. The arugula, heirloom tomatoes, and Julienne strips yellow bell pepper and green apple were a thoughtful addition that also lends flavor to the entire dish.

Foie Gras Ballotine (Php550)

Another appetizer which became my instant favorite on first bite is Foie Gras Ballotine. Brioche topped with foie gras served with slivers of duck ham and salad greens. Foie gras is already good eaten as it is, seared lightly, the flavor is always good. In this dish, foie gras eaten with duck ham against the interesting texture of brioche is a different level of goodness.

Pistachio Crusted Black Cod Fish (Php650) 

A light yet flavorful and satisfying main fish dish, Pistachio Crusted Black Cod Fish is perfect for health conscious diners who does not want to compromise flavors over calories. The carrot pudding, red onion, and chocolate marmalade in saffron sauce is a great accompaniment that holds an interesting texture and a flavor that is almost ethereal.

Confit Pork Belly (Php450)

Tender pork belly with crisp outer layer, a proof of a perfectly baked porcini treat. Madison's Confit Pork Belly that sits atop of potato gratin, braised balsamic lentils and thyme jus is a perfect dish for those who has a thing for porchetta with an added flair in flavor.

Braised Lamb Shank (Php750)

This lamb dish in hefty serving posses the kind of fall off the bone tenderness everybody loves. Its savory flavor is reminiscent of the local Filipino cuisine called caldereta only more savory with an apparent taste of herb and spices. Served with mashed potato and steamed vegetables, any rice loving citizen  may crave for that proverbial heaping bowl of steamed rice which I deem perfect accompaniment for this dish.

Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin (Php950/200gms)
All of the beef served at Madison's are grass-fed Angus beef, and this dish is not an exception. Grilled medium rare, the tenderness and flavor are indication of a high grade beef meant to be savored up to the last piece. Even the gigantic grilled mushroom on top should not be missed as it lends an earthy flavor to the meat.

Dry Aged Rib Eye (Php1,680/300gms)
Same quality of grass fed Angus beef is use for Madison's rib eye steak. Equally flavorful but more juicy as compared to the previous steak. Again, the grilled mushroom on top is a delightful addition that one should not miss.

Grilled beef dishes at Madison's are best eaten with variety of side dishes and toppings. While each dish comes with one serving of side dish, diners can also request for a separate order of sides such as mashed potato , creamy spinach, duck fat fried potatoes, arugula salad, shoe string potatoes, and cauliflower gratin. All are priced at Php125 each save for the duck fat fried potatoes which are priced at Php200 per serving.

Steak toppings on the hand includes foie gras (Php450), mushroom sauce (Php120) truffle butter (120), and bernaise (Php120).

bar list at Madison's boasts of impressive line of drinks. Food attendants are kind enough to offer recommendation of drinks that are suited for the dishes that diners opt for. There are variety of single malt whisky, whisky, tequilla, vodka, gin, rum, beer, and non alcoholic beverages. Price range for alcoholic beverages ranges from Php85 (a bottle of San Mig Light) to Php70,560 ( a bottle of Strathisla 1960 Single Malt Whisky).

Fine ambiance, great tasting dishes, impressive bar, reasonable prices, decent serving portion, and thoughtful service ~ these are just some of the things that diners may expect when dining at Madison's Bistro Moderne.
