Megawatt Restaurant, Gilmore Quezon City

September 10, 2016
I have been blogging about food and restaurants in Manila for good eight years now and it is not everyday that I get to see a restaurant which advocacy piqued my interest. In the case of Megawatt Restaurant located in Gilmore area of Quezon City near San Juan, it's their advocacy to use renewable energy by using solar panel

Just like its sister restaurant Red Baron Ribs and Steaks, Megawatt Restaurant is located right beside a car wash business. So, you can dine at Megawatt while having your car washed and you may check out the solar panel as well while you're at it.

I was invite to check out Megawatt couple of times already but it I always have to decline because I rarely attend food tasting event invite these days. When I finally had the time to be in the area however, I made it sure to finally check out Megawatt Restaurant

The floor area of Megawatt is of decent size and decorated with an industrial streak that is said to exude a power plant themed ambiance. There are merchandise available - mostly are collectors items from shoes to toys. There is a viewing deck where diners my see the solar panel that Megawatt is using. I was told that they do not rely on it 100% but they are enthusiastic in showing people that it is possible to run a business using solar panel.

As for the food, I tried three of what is said to be their specialty - pizza, chicken, and burrito.

The thing I most liked about their pizza I must say was the flavorful crust. It also helps that the gorgonzola cheese, chicken, and mushroom on my Bleu Chicken Roadhouse Pizza (Php365) were also good and generous enough to make every bite quite filling.

I also had the Chicken and Fries (Php268 / 3pcs) which fries can be substituted to waffles depending on diners preference. I love the crisp skin and the flavor of the chicken. The gravy was okay but I suggest trying out the sundried tomato ketchup readily available on the table. The fries was good as well, not your run-of-the-mill fries you can usually find in some restaurant, but I find the serving portion a bit lacking for a three-piece chicken.

I believe they are having a Chicken All-You-Can promo at Megawatt, so if interested, you might want to check that one out.

I also had the Pork Kimchi Burrito (Php215) which I find a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor but impressive in terms of the serving portion. I guess I didn't like the taste of the pork they used which pretty much spoil the entire experience. I feel bad about it really because I love Korean food and I would normally rave about anything with kimchi, but I run out of luck for this one.

I also had the Black Currant Tea (Php88) which I find okay just like your usual brewed flavored iced tea with fancy name. I noticed that they offer imported beers which can also be a good option for those who wants good beer to go along with their grubs.

Aside from the food, Megawatt also sells deli products including their homemade Sun Dried Tomato Ketchup and Bursted Jalapeno Sauce.

I just have to post photo of this cute toolbox Megawatt uses when handing the bills to their customers. Really cute.

I really appreciate that Megawatt in its own way is advocating the use of solar panel and the importance of using renewable energy. Based on the food I have tried, I find everything to be okay - nothing really mind blowing nor rave worthy to be honest. If anything I will probably go back here if ever I'll be in the area and in need of a car wash or if I need to introduce to someone a business that also believes in the use of solar panel such as myself.
