Café Shibuya at SM Megamall

I visited Cafe Shibuya at SM Megamall recently and I have come into realization that after all these years, Cafe Shibuya is still one of those cafe restaurants that makes me giddy with happiness like a kid. It first captured my heart way back 2014 when I first visited their branch in Glorietta, and to this day, I am still fangirling over their delicious offerings.

Just the thought of having their amazing Shibuya Toasts coupled with Ghirardelli Frappe excites me to the core. While actually feasting on it - euphoria, man!

I am telling you, their is the kind of sugar rush I welcome warmly in my life. 


Currently, Cafe Shibuya has branches at Trinoma, SM North The Block, Glorietta 2, and SM Megamall. Their SM Megamall branch is located at the 2nd floor of Bldg. A near Forever 21. 

It was brunch time on a weekday when we visited and while I thought it wouldn't be that busy, minutes after settling down on our table, people started coming in until almost every table was occupied. You know that feeling when you see that your favorite restaurant is doing great and is love by many? I have that kind of feeling for Cafe Shibuya.



Despite having several customers that day, Margot, the lovely food attendant efficiently attend to our needs. She's all smile through and through which I appreciate because I am all for good customer service which I deem very rare these days. 

First on our table was Fish and Chips (Php195). It's basically deep fried cream dory fish served with potato chips and Mentaiko mayo sauce. It's hefty serving portion is good for sharing especially when having it as an appetizer. It can also be a meal on its own if you are a fan of this classic combination. The Mentaiko mayo sauce plays a big role in lending this familiar dish with a streak of pleasant uniqueness that will push one to have more than one bite.

Now here's a personal rule, I cannot not have Truffle Cream with Proscuitto (Php275/single, Php495/sharing) when dining at Cafe Shibuya. I have tried a lot of truffle pasta in the past and in different restaurants and places, but Cafe Shibuya's version of it is just something I gotta have. It got me hooked the first time I tried it and to this day, I am still madly in love with it.

We also had the Fish Florentine (Php250). It is pan fried dory fish topped with spinach and creamy cheddar bechamel sauce and served with a side of tomato and corn salsa and rice pilaf. It is a simple meal but satisfying nonetheless. I am not too crazy about dory fish because of its infamous bland flavor profile but Cafe Shibuya did a great job in packing it with enough flavor. 

My companion who loves fish gave this dish a thumbs up and I personally like this one as well.

I am crazy about kimchi and Korean food in general so when I learned that Cafe Shibuya got Crispy Pork Belly with Kimchi Rice (Php315) on their menu, I knew from the get go that I gotta have it. It is basically deep fried pork belly served with spicy kimchi rice with fried egg - a perfect meal in my opinion. 

I love that the kimchi's flavor is very apparent without overbearingly so. My companion has never been fond of kimchi but admitted that she liked this kimchi fried rice for some reason. Now the praise-worthy thing about this dish was the crispy pork belly which was so divine in its crispness and flavor. Highly recommended, I tell you.

We also got the Glazed Beef Tapa with Onion Strings (Php285) which is essentially a meal comprised of caramelized tapa topped with crisp onion strings on a bed of garlick fried rice. I also love this dish. I love how tender the tapa was and I appreciate that they threw in crisp onion for a good measure because it went well with the beef and the garlic rice.

The serving portion is not as generous as I hoped it to be. The fact that it was served on a really big plate does not help at all because it only makes the small portion size glaring. Nonetheless I love it because of its flavor and tenderness.

I was quite full from feasting on the delicious dishes we had at Cafe Shibuya but another personal rule is there's not leaving the table without having my favorites which doubles as dessert. I opted for Shibuya Honey Toast (Php155/baby, Php185/Regular) Cafe Shibuya's signature toast served with honey syrup and vanilla ice cream. There are several toast choices on the menu but this very basic toast is the reason why I am still in love with this cafe to this day.

Of course I had it with Triple Dark Ghirardelli Chocolate Frappe (Php165) which is also my favorite from the get go. The combination of Belgian dark chocolate, Ghirardelli cocoa, and sweetened cocoa powder still works wonders for me. I also got to try their Strawberry Latte Fruit Cooler (Php155) which is perfect for those who has affinity for strawberry and the Mango Passionfruit Lemonade (Php130) which refreshing taste I deem perfect as a thirst quencher.

As I mentioned, I am still a fan of Cafe Shibuya to this day. New cafes and restaurants are popping up faster now more than ever but in my hearts of hearts, Cafe Shibuya is one of those that still makes me happy. It is one of those I can still highly recommend to everyone I know. 

So if you are in the area, do drop by their store and enjoy a meal or two and indulge on their delicious toasts and frappes while you're at it.
