NORD'S BREAD HUB in SM North EDSA The Block: Artisan Bread, Coffee, and Heartwarming Meals

August 02, 2017
Nord’s Bread Hub in SM City North EDSA The Block is a new urban style bakery café by the Vikings Group that specializes in artisan breads coupled with impressive cafe drinks selections and heartwarming meals.  It is located at the second floor of the busy shopping center which makes It a perfect respite for tired and hungry shoppers who seek to satisfy their hunger with good quality food and service.

Vikings Group which brought us Vikings Luxury Buffet, Niu, and Four Seasons Hot Pot is known for their impeccable taste for high quality food and impressive flair for aesthetics. People can expect the exact same things at Nord’s Bread Hub.

It is not often that I get to visit the Northern part of the Metro but upon learning that Vikings Group opened their newest baby at SM North, I knew it will be worth the long drive.

I have written about Vikings Group of Buffet Restaurants several times in the past already and I cannot remember a time when their pastry and bread selections on their respective buffet spreads did not impressed me. I am always in awe at how good their artisan breads were.

So I wasn’t really surprised that Vikings Group step up their game and created a separate concept that celebrates one of the things they do best – creating artisanal breads. Nord's Bread Hub at The Block SM North EDSA is their first branch but it is said that they are looking to expand and open up Nord's at several different branches just like its sister concept, Vikings Luxury Buffet.

For someone like me who cannot live a day without bread, a trip to Nord's Bread Hub is like a trip to your childhood's dream candy land. There are loads of variety of bread that it would be impossible to pick one or two since everything looks impeccably delicious.

Despite having opened recently, I noticed during our visit that Nord's Bread Hub has been getting good attention from people. Nord's Executive Chef Jonathan Jota and his team really did a great job in creating enticing breads that lures people in.

And while its aesthetics plays a big role in attracting people, based on my dining experience, the great quality of food, the warm service, and the nice ambiance are the things that makes the diners stay.

It is a good place to go to with your loved ones and friends for you can enjoy feasting on delicious grubs that Nord's offer. It can also be  a great place for some alone time as they have plenty of sockets for gadgets and they also have books readily available which diners can read and even exchange for their old ones.

Really, there are several reasons to go and visit Nord's Bread Hub but the primary reason is of course their breads.

Some of the breads one can spot at Nord's Bread Hub includes Nord's Pizza Grande, Apple Danish, Peach Danish, Cream Cheese Brioche, Sausage Danish, Bacon and Cheese Bread, French Cheese Bread, Polo Bun, Pork Floss, Soft French Bread, Multi Grain Bread, Asado Polo Bun, and Chicken Pastel Polo Bun.

Choco Whirl, Cheese Volcano, Raisin Cranberry, Pork Floss Croissant, Onion and Bacon Bread, Almond Croissant, Plain Croissant, Pan A' Ube, Choco Custard, Cookies, Lemon Crinkles, Ensaymada, Ensaymada Floss, Cream Cheese Danish, Oreo Boat Danish, and Bacon Danish just to name a few.

Aside from artisanal breads and coffee, Nord's Bread Hub also serves all-day breakfast and other heartwarming meals. Since this is Vikings Group, it is expected that everything they serve here is delicious.

I was honestly not expecting much from their meals because I thought the main star here are the delicious bread. But lo and behold, all the meals I have tried were nothing short of amazing. Yes, I am going back to  Nord's not just for their bread but for their delicious meals as well.

First on the table during our visit was the Oriental Mango Salad (Php230) which comprised of mixed lettuce, red cabbage, capsicums, cucumber, steamed chicken, bean sprout, cilantro, mango, mandarin orange, caramelized walnuts, and sesame soy dressing topped with crispy wanton strips.

I love salad and this one is one great salad I have had recently. The combination of each ingredients blends perfectly well. The serving was good for sharing so really, with its price tag, this one is such a great deal.

Another great option for salad is the Salad Surprise (Php215) which is a combination of crisp romaine lettuce, cucumber, caramelized walnuts, dried cranberry, and ranch dressing, topped with Waldorf salad. Yeah, it's like a salad within a salad.

We also got to try the Nord Sampler's (Php390) A combination of shrimp dynamite, almond chicen tenders, house fries, potato wedges, served with three house dipping sauce. If you cannot decide on what to start your feast at Nord's, this is one good option especially if you are into delicious fried food with variety of dipping sauces to boot.

The Salmon Miso Teriyaki (Php395) was my personal choice and I am telling you that I only have immense love for this dish. This Grilled Norwegian Salmon was seasoned with five spice and finished with butter which makes its flavor a marriage of Asian and European flavor. It was served over mashed garlic potato with miso teriyaki sauce and seasonal vegetables on the side.

I am seriously in love with this dish. I love the combination of flavor and other elements that comprised the meal like the salad that comes with it. I also love that the serving portion is hefty it can be for sharing.

Another highly impressive dish was the Don Malutong (Php295) which is basically crispy pork belly served with steamed rice and scrambled egg. It was like a lovechild of bacon and lechon kawali to be honest.

I wasn't very keen on trying it out at first thinking that it was just another pork belly dish. But my kindly friends Eugene of Hefty Foodie and Mr. Jeng of Food in the Bag lured me into trying it out and boy was I hooked!

For those who cannot decide on what to have or for those who wants to have a little bit of everything, the Tres Marias (Php360) is a perfect choice as it comprised of homemade Angus beef tapa, young pork tocino, and pork adobo served with Chorizo rice and egg.

It is an all-day breakfast packed with so much flavor and good things one may enjoy if wanting to have a satisfying meal.

The Shrimp and Bacon Pasta (Php350) I also find impressive. It is basically a pasta with sauted shrimp and bacon in mustard cream sauce. It is very simple but being a cream-based pasta lover, I don't mind having this again on my next visit at Nord's.

The Grilled Monte Cristo (Php320) is a good option if one wants to skip rice and pasta and would want to opt for a sandwich instead. It is basically grilled honey ham, egg, and mixed cheese served on three layers French toast. One of the best sandwich I have had recently.

For dessert, we had mango and chocolate cakes. Nord's Bread Hub also sells delicious cakes priced at around Php800++ for whole and Php130+ per slice. It can be a perfect dessert after a feast at Nord's and it can also be a great way to make Nord's Bread Hub creation become part of your special occasions.

All in all, I had a really great time enjoying our feast at Nord's Bread Hub. So if you happen to be in the area or if you are just crazy about bread like me that you don't mind distance, I highly recommend you to check out Nord's Bread Hub at The Block of SM North EDSA. They offer great artisanal breads, coffee, and meal selections at a very reasonable price.
