Munchtown in Promenade, Greenhills: Elevating Your Cinema Snacking Experience

August 18, 2014
Friends told me that snacking inside the movie house while watching new flick will never be the same again once you tried the food at Munchtown located at the new Promenade in Greenhills. Having one of the geniuses in Manila restaurant scene. chef Robby Gocco under its helm, I could not argue. I, myself is a fan. Turning the usual movie snack into a gourmet delight is something only a passionate chef could muster to do with impeccable swag. Chef Gocco, did just that.

Munchtown menu consist primarily of food that is perfect to be eaten on the go, making it convenient for people to eat the goodies inside the movie house. Yet, whether you opt to feast on their offerings while watching movie or not, their location can accommodate good numbers of diners.

Munchtown boasts of offerings such as burgers, fries, pizza, chicken wings, nachos, and hotdog sandwich.  I cannot remember how many times have I declined invites to visit Munchtown and try their food due to my schedule. Good thing that one time I was free, my friend Richard tagged me along for some Hotdog Sandwich Feast at Munchtown. Our group feasted on different variants of gourmet hotdog sandwich that I lost count of how many variants were there. Trust me, there were too many that I was not able to try all of them, so I've only written those which I've tasted.

The Deputy Dog is a combination of hotdog, pulled pork, Russian dressing, cheddar cheese, and pickled onion sandwiched in potato hotdog bun. Yes, they use potato bun, making the bread all the more filling and savory (Chef Gocco, You.Are.Amazing.) I like this variant because the taste of the pulled pork combined with the awesomeness of the bread sits well with my palate.

The Pizza Dog, one of my favorites among the bunch, is a combination two things I love; pizza and hotdog. Again, the potato bread played a big role in elevating the taste of this kick ass treat, but the combination of other ingredients especially the amazing mozzarella cheese should not go unnoticed.

The Chili Dog is a combination of homemade chili con carne and hot dog. It reminds me of the usual chili dog I enjoy at home on a lazy Sunday afternoon, hence, making this one a comforting treat for me. The Naked Dog on the other hand stands honorably despite its simplicity, since the flavor of the meaty hotdog and the bread works like a charm.

Spicy food lovers could find comfort in Munchtown's Chicago Dog. It boasts of tomatoes, pickle relish, onions, banana peppers, mustard, sliced pickle spear, and celery salt. It was only recently that I am getting the hang of eating spicy food after years of aversion to it, so, this one is a good testing ground for me. The Surf Dog features sweet and savory combination of pineapple and some stewed bell peppers, making the meaty taste of the hotdog all the more enticing.

Aside from the Pizza Dog, two of my favorites includes the Reuben Dog and the BLT Dog. The Reuben Dog is the hotdog sandwich version of my favorite corned beef packed Reuben sandwich. While the BLT Dog is something that any bacon lovers would not want to pass up.

The Everything But The Kitchen Sink (E.B.T.K.S.) is a variant perfect for those who wants everything on their hotdog sandwich. Its name is a dead giveaway. What I like about this variant is the generous cheese and the kick of chili that can make anyone crave for more of it.

The Taco Dog is perfect for those like me, who has an affinity for soft taco treats. I love Tex-Mex food and this variant reminds me of it so much that I wasn't surprise that it made it to my list of favorites.

Aside from the hotdogs, I was able to try some of Munchtown offerings. They served quite a few but the degree of my satiety could only handle some Blue Cheese Fries with Chicken Liver and a couple of bite of their Black Angus Cheeseburger. Both these goodies were amazing, especially the burger.

I was also able to try their Salted Caramel Milkshake which I adore and probably one of the best milkshakes I have tried, ever. The Oreo Overload Milkshake was also good especially if you are an Oreo Cookie fan. I love the thickness of the milkshake and the hefty serving fit for someone who has big appetite.

I have to admit that prior to the visit at Munchtown in Greenhills, I already have high expectations. After all, it was raved by some of the foodies in Manila which I trust and it was chef Gocco that we are talking about. Needless to say, Munchtown did not disappoint based on the items which I have tried. There few dishes on the menu which I am looking forward to have when I visit one of these days but meanwhile, may I suggest that when you watch a movie at Promenade Greenhills, ditch your usual cinema snacks and head instead to Munchtown.
