Dolcelli Cakes

October 25, 2012
While food writing warrants me to be adventurous in trying out different food, there are still certain types which I am very particular if not picky about. One of them are cakes. Although I have tried quite a decent number of this fine treat, there are only handful which I consider the best cakes in my book.

I am by no means a cake snob, but I know my preferences. I have few favorites which really rocked my world, I have some which I consider comfort food, an answer to cravings, and there are which I constantly recommend to friends because I know it wouldn't disappoint. Yes, I am picky when it comes to my cake, that is why I am adamant to discover something well worth the calories and a space here at YedyLicious.

Recent discovery includes cakes by Dolcelli Food Specialties, and yes, it deserves a spot here on my food blog.

When I was given the list of cake variants that Dolcelli has to offer, it was their Avocado Sansrival that I find rather interesting. It was just unfortunate that it isn't available when I requested for it since avocado is seasonal fruit. But having tasted other variants from Dolcelli, I could say that the experience was equally noteworthy.

I guess it is no secret that I have deep rooted affinity for chocolate. So, when I opened a box of Dolcelli's Cognac Chocolate, I was really excited. That excitement didn't go to waste. While it may not be the type of chocolate cake that could drive me crazy, it certainly pleased my palate.

Layers of chocolate fudge cake and mousse with chocolate ganache on top was certainly something that I love in a chocolate cake.  I like the moist component of the entire deal. It sort of reminds me of Pan Pacific's Butler Cake, only with lesser flair but still enjoyable. There's only a subtle hint of cognac that elevates the taste of the chocolate further. However, I could have appreciated it more had it exude apparent taste of cognac as its name suggests.

Dolcelli's Mango Royale can be passed off as the usual refrigerated cake at a glance. But when you dig into this creamy fruity treat, you will be surprise with a layer of rich cream hinting of nutty flavor and a cashew meringue base that is normally use for sansrival cakes.

Surprisingly, I liked Mango Royale better than the Cognac Chocolate. It is a rare occurrence for me to choose fruity cake over chocolate. It was that good that I wouldn't really mind having this every day.

There are only few ube cakes that I enjoy as I am not really big of such treat. I usually find ube flavored cakes either too sweet or too bland. Dolcelli's Ube Royale is sitting somewhere in the middle and is just right. I loved blending of flavors that comes from the cake itself and the generous cream on top plays on my palatte.

Simple in appearance and straightforward in taste, it is something that both kids and kids at heart could enjoy.

Truth be told, Dolcelli's Vanilla Panacotta is one of the best I've had for such a long time. It reminds me of the one that Italianni's serves, only I find Dolcelli's a tad richer and creamier. It was so good that I finished the small tub in no time without being assaulted with intense creaminess.
Honestly, I don't have any expectation when the idea of trying out Dolcelli's cakes for the first time hit me. Surprisingly, I was floored because had I set high expectations, Dolcelli will surely exceed it.  Dolcelli Food Specialties isn't just your run-of-the-mill cake shop because each cakes I tried is suggestive that ingredients used were of high quality.

By the rate that these cakes I featured impressed me, I couldn't wait to taste other offerings by Dolcelli.
