One whole day, three restaurants, and Huawei P9 mobile phone – Challenge accepted!

This is all about my restaurant adventures in one day with Huawei P9 mobile phone at hand as a tool to use in fulfilling tasks as a food blogger.

Ever since having Huawei P9, I must say that things gets a tad easier for me especially when it comes to my restaurant adventures. Huawei P9’s classic and stylish appearance is a sure winner for me but what made me fall in love to it all the more is its efficiency as a smartphone and its dual-lens camera co-engineered by Leica.

As you may have known, I live a bit far from Manila and having to carry my heavy DSLR and its lenses when attending events and venturing into food trips can be tiring at times. Needless to say, a Smartphone with highly impressive camera good enough to use in my food blogging is indispensable.

Having been introduced to Huawei P9 is heaven sent. It has all the impressive features I need in my Smartphone. Now to show you how it can be an effective tool for people like me who are into documenting their experiences and adventures, I will let you in on my own restaurant adventure with Huawei P9.

I decided to take the challenge into a whole day adventure in three different restaurants because that is how I usually work as a food blogger. My goal is to use Huawei P9 to capture the entire day gastronomical experience instead of using my DSLR.

Time of the day and lighting matter when it comes to photographing food. Through the whole day food trip, I figured I will be able to see how Huawei P9 works in different light setting.

Majority of the photos I took using the Huawei P9 were in Pro camera setting – the equivalent of Manual setting in usual cameras. Mainly because that is how I usually work and I want to have a full control of the aperture, ISO, and other settings.

I also use other settings which will be indicated accordingly just so I can show you that Huawei P9 still works well in other camera settings. Editing of photos I posted here are kept to a minimum such as resizing and cropping to accommodate the economy of space required in my blog theme.

The day of my restaurant adventure with Huawei P9 was rather rainy so I decided to stick to my hometown and try restaurants I can include in my Antipolo Food Trip Blog Series here at YedyLicious.

First stop, Roots and Herbs Café which happened to be the nearest café to where I live. They serve variety of good café grubs but their specialty is the Malunggay Frappe and Coffee as well as their Pandesandwich.

Here are the photos I took using my Huawei P9.

It was a rainy morning and the café sports low light ambiance. Usually, I will be hard pressed to survive on getting the perfect ISO setting or better yet use speedlight for my DSLR if situation permits – meaning, if it wouldn’t bother other diners. But with Huawei P9, I was able to capture these photos without much hassle. I love that Huawei P9’s 5.2 inches IPS-NEO LCD as it allows me to see the entire frame of the photos clearly so that I can make sure that the noises are kept at bay as I choose the right ISO setting.

Second stop was a new restaurant, also in our neighborhood, the Yellow Bird Café and Kitchen.  In contrast to the previous café, this one features a well lit ambiance so I had the freedom to use the Auto mode camera setting on my Huawei P9 without having to worry about lighting. I also played a little with the Aperture setting for some shallow DOF (depth of field) photo capture.

I have also included some photos of the restaurant interior to show you that Huawei P9 is not only limited to capturing great food photos but of other things as well.

These are the photos I took using Huawei P9.

Since Huawei P9’s sports 12MP dual-lens camera, the clarity of the photos is undoubtedly impressive. It also has remarkable features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama, and can capture HDR.

Third stop was also in a new restaurant, Tavolinos. It was almost dinner time but since I have tested Huawei P9’s efficiency in low light photography, there was never a shadow of a doubt that I might have a hard time taking photos.

Now the good thing about Huawei P9’s dual-lens camera is the fact that each sensor has its own purpose. The first one is tasked for colored or RGB image captures while the other one is for monochrome. The one responsible for monochrome filters out other colors resulting into finer details of striking black and white. The double sensor also makes it possible to let in more light in which means precision and clarity. That is why it works well with low light ambiance.

Of course, a food blogger’s restaurant adventures aren’t complete without posting photos on social media. During that one day restaurant adventures with Huawei P9, I was able to post some photos on Instagram giving you my dear readers a peek of my adventures and a peek on the efficiency of Huawei P9 when it comes to capturing social media friendly photos and connecting to the world wide web.

Since Huawei P9 sports professional camera effects, I took advantage of it by using them instead of the usual photography apps I would normally use when posting on social media. Everything looks great in my opinion hence it is safe to say that having Huawei P9 is like having a camera and a band of impressive photo apps in one package.

So there you go, my restaurant adventures with Huawei P9. I must say that Huawei P9 is one great Smartphone to have if you are into capturing experiences and adventures by means of photos. It is indeed true that its dual-lens co-engineered by Leica paved way into reinventing Smartphone photography.
