Gustazo Gourmet Tuyo Open-Faced Sandwich Recipe and Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa Soft Tacos Recipe

One of the things that makes a kitchen distinctly Filipino is the unwavering presence of two most well-loved Pinoy delicacies ~ Tuyo and Tinapa. I for one grew up in a household which pantry never ran out of these two. Patriotic treats for some while stable stars on the table for others, Tuyo (Dried Herring) and Tinapa (Smoked Mackerel) are Filipino comfort food that can commensurate to a beautiful nostalgia when eaten.

Tuyo and tinapa are without a doubt always delicious. A poor man’s feast, these two are. And while both of these delicious treats are relatively easy to prepare, Gustazo has made enjoying tuyo and tinapa alongside some of their products all the more convenient through their bottled products.

Started five years ago, Gustazo, which means “pleasure in every bite” aims to provide affordable Filipino gourmet food of premium quality. Having bottled gourmet tuyo as their first product, Gustazo later on introduced other high quality bottled gourmet products. The convenience it proposes has made appreciating these Filipino food possible as it can be enjoyed anytime and anywhere. Yes, no cooking required.

Since its inception, Gustazo expanded its product repertoire and now it boasts of Gourmet Tuyo (Mild and Regular, Pomodoro Tinapa, Sundried Tomato Sardines, Lemon Garlic Sardines, Chunky Bagoong, Bangus ala Pobre, and Bacalo de Manila.

While the convenience of eating these goodies just right out of the bottles is noteworthy, equally impressive are its flavors and tastes. Anyone who is always on the go can find comfort that all it takes is a heaping bowl of hot rice and a bottle of their favorite Gustazo variants and they are good to go.

Now, although Gustazo’s bottled gourmet food can be eaten as it is, adventurous foodies could also incorporate it to their next adventure in the kitchen. With Gustazo, you can definitely prepare downright simple meals for your loved ones or go gourmet by creating impeccable dishes with the use of your preferred variant.

Two of my favorites are Gustazo’s Gourmet Tuyo Mild and Gustazo’s Pomodoro Tinapa. Since I lean on the adventurous type of the spectrum, I usually incorporate these two on my kitchen creations. Trust me, incorporating Gustazo’s bottled gourmet products could turn a simple recipe into something amazing.

Gustazo’s Gourmet Tuyo Mild is fillets of dried herring fish luxuriously bathed in corn oil. Bits of garlic are thrown into the mix for the added flavor which works really well with the fish. While tuyo is known for its innate saltiness, Gustazo’s rendition strikes a perfect balance between salty and savory, hence nothing is overpowering.

A bowl of garlic rice and some fried eggs are perfect combination that complements this gourmet tuyo, but aside from that, I love having it on my sandwich.

Gustazo Gourmet Tuyo Open-Faced Sandwich Recipe

Making a sandwich is relatively easy. There are no rules, really. Just grab everything edible you love and stack ‘em up. For this recipe, I was channeling my all time favorite, Eggs Benedict. Since I do not have English muffin on hand and I want some greens on my mix, open-faced sandwich is the way to go. I also use cream cheese because it does a great job in tempering the taste of the fish and it goes perfectly well with the Hollandaise sauce.

Ingredients:

Yields 1 sandwich

Gustazo Gourmet Tuyo (as much as you want, depending on the size of your good ol’ bread)

1 sliced of bread ( I used whole wheat)
1 tbsp of cream cheese (or more)
Greens (lettuce, arugula, etc)
1 poached egg
Hollandaise sauce

Procedure:

1. Grab your favorite slice of bread.
2. Spread a tablespoon (or more) of cream cheese.
3. Place your preferred greens on top.
4. Add Gustazo Gourmet Tuyo fillets.
5. Top with poached egg
6. Pour some Hollandaise sauce on top of the poached egg.
7. Eat like a rockstar.

Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa on the other hand is bottled smoked mackerel in tomato oil. Chunks of deseeded tomatoes and carrots cooked in oil adds flavor to the mix. Just like the gourmet tuyo, it can be enjoyed with rice, bread, and pasta dishes, but as inspiring as it is, one can easily whip up an easy recipe just like the pomodoro tinapa soft tacos I did.

Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa Soft Tacos Recipe

Fish taco is always a healthy option for those who has affinity for this Mexican fare. In contract to the usual breaded fish fillet, my soft taco recipe calls for shredded Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa which yields the same exciting flavor.

Ingredients:
Yields 2 tacos

2 flour tortilla (whole wheat is also a good option)
1 cup shredded lettuce (cabbage can also be an option)
1 cup picco de gallo (combination of diced tomatoes, white onions, jalapeno, coarsely chopped cilantro, and lime juice)
½ cup corn kernels

Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa shredded
½ cup sour cream (or more)
½ cup grated cheddar cheese

Procedure:

1. Place chopped lettuce in a flour tortilla.
2. Add picco de gallo and corn kernels
3. Add shredded Gustazo Pomodoro Tinapa (you may or may not include the tomatoes)
4. Add sour cream on top
5. Sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese
6. Serve and enjoy!

These two recipes require no cooking and are both easy to whip up. Both are simple dishes made deliciously gourmet with the use of Gustazo bottled gourmet products. Its take on convenient preparation and impressive tastes are Gustazo’s strong suits, hence perfect for anyone who loves to cook and eat, or both. Gustazo’s beautiful packaging also makes it perfect as a gift to your friends and loved ones especially this holiday season.

With the variants that Gustazo is offering, countless of inspiring easy recipes are easy to come by. I will post more recipes using Gustazo bottled gourmet products in the future so stay tuned for that. Meanwhile, I highly recommend that you my dear readers should try Gustazo. It is very convenient to eat and to prepare, and the taste and flavors are by far the best I’ve tried when it comes to bottled gourmet products. Indeed, it is pleasure in every bite!
