B&B Burgers and Brewskies at Burgos Circle, BGC

March 03, 2014
B&B Burgers and Brewskies is a gastro pub located at the Forbes Town Center, Burgos Circle area of the Fort in Bonifacio Global City wherein if you hear the phrase "Call the Nurse" you have the excuse not to resort into an immediate panic. Yes, because apparently, one of the carefully crafted burgers at this new addition to the best burger joints in Manila is called "Call the Nurse."

An epic burger variant that boasts of honey cured sriracha bacon and seared mac and cheese on top of a 1/3 lb 100% imported beef patty generously smothered with spiced mustard aioli and bnb cheese sauce, Call the Nurse is one of the many reasons why you must visit Burgers and Brewskies pronto.

Burgers and beers may sound like the usual combination most of us like but with numbers of joints offering the marriage of these two, how else can you elevate such a treat? Judging by the recent experience I had at Burgers and Brewskies, it seems to me that despite being a new player in the field, they have already mastered this league.

Occupying the space for the now defunct Dinelli at Forbes Town Center, Burgers and Brewskies ambiance speaks of the manly burgers and macho beers they do serve. Wood clad walls peppered with quirky signage and decorations exudes a laid back vibe with cool sophistication not comparable to your usual burger joints. First floor features a bar showcasing beers, liquors, and other beverages fronting the al fresco dining area outside the store. At the mezzanine however, the ambiance speaks more of a diner.

My KTG foodie friends and I visited Burgers and Brewskies one lunch time to check out their menu offerings and to spent a leisurely afternoon with booze and burgers. During the visit, menu was pretty straightforward featuring burgers, side orders, and wide variety of beers. The visit happened weeks ago we were told that they are still in the process of developing other burger variants and other dishes to add to their menu.

Sweet Potato Fries at Burgers and Brewskies
Our burger feast started with some appetizers; S.P.F. Sweet Potato Fries (Php65) which secret spice mix I appreciate to the core since I am more into the potato variant, and Chili Cheese Fries (Php160) which cheese sauce over thick cut fries I could not get enough of.

We also had the Cuban Missile (Php120), understandably the crowd's favorite since it features flavors you would not really expect from your usual corn on the cob. Have it shredded if you don't want to deal with the messy handling of the entire deal.

Essentially, all burgers at Burgers and Brewskies has a base made up of 1/3 lbs. imported beef patty, cooked medium well stacked with shredded lettuce in a delicious brioche bun. The difference among the burger variants lies on the garnishing and other added sauces depending on the variants. Our group was able to try eight burgers on their menu, switching from one variant to another and deciding which one is our favorite.

Two of the burgers we have tried were named after characters in hit TV series, Breaking Bad. I rarely watch T.V. series. Hell, I rarely watch television save for some Walking Dead marathon. While everybody was glued on their screens, I was busy mental sparring with Chuck Palahniuk and Hunter S. Thompson. I am geek that way. (One friend gave me copy of the complete season of Breaking Bad out of pity. Thank you very much.) So, when my luncheon buddies were busy discussing about Breaking Bad over Hector Salamanca Burger and Heisenberg Burger, I was so lost. Good thing though the flavors of these two burgers were strong enough not to lose my attention.

Heisenberg Burger (Php250) is a burger stack topped with Bleu cheese sauce, Jicama celery slaw with bacon vinaigrette. Yes, those beautiful white and delicious-looking babies on top are Jicama (Singakamas) and not French fries. Weird combination of flavor but works for me.

Hector Salamanca Burger (Php240) on the other hand is a burger stack topped with B&B chili oil, B&B cheese sauce, Jalapeño Crema, tomato salsa, and crisp nacho strips. The added texture brought about by the nacho strips was notable, but it does not discount the fact that I am not into spicy food. Judging from my luncheon mates reaction however made me think that this one wasn't bad.

I am always told that I am one of few people who is very appreciative of onions, hence I wasn't surprised that I took a great liking for the Relish Burger (Php225). This burger stack is topped with Spiced mustard aioli, B&B cheese sauce, tomato jam, basil garlic pesto, and pickled onions. The onions may be a tad overwhelming but the addition of tomato jam can temper the flavor, hence, be sure that you'll get little of everything when biting onto it.

Another burger which I took a great liking was the Cloud Burger (Php230). If you have deep affinity for mushroom like I do, then Cloud Burger with its heaping savory Shitake mushroom on top can get you a kind of high (no pun intended). The roasted garlic aioli, B&B cheese sauce, and balsamic glazed, works well with the mushroom that also has figs thrown in the mix.

My dear friend Irene a.k.a. Mrs. Tales From The Tummy is not a big beef eater, hence she opted for Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Burger (Php230) for her burger. Chicken burger patty doused with cheese sauce, garlic aioli, and rum bbq sauce finished with string fried breaded onions on top, this burger is as good as the beefies and just perfect for those who love chicken on buns.

As a bacon lover, there were two burgers at Burgers and Brewskies we tried that blew me away. First is the Kandi Burger (Php265) which boasts of spiced candied bacon on top of the burger stack with roasted garlic aioli, B&B cheese sauce, and onion confit. As mentioned, I like onion especially when it is on its caramelized state, and obviously, I love bacon, hence the combination works for me.

Next was the famous Call The Nurse. Mac and Cheese Topped with Honey Sriracha Bacon on a burger stack, what's not to love? Tell me, what's not to love? Although the "sriracha" part of the bacon made me a little apprehensive before digging into it, but lo and behold, it just works for my palate.

The All Day Breakfast Burger was off the menu during our visit so I am not sure of its price. But if it falls somewhere along the tag price of the aforementioned bacon-topped burgers then I must say that it's a good deal. What made this burger special aside from the fact that it also boasts of bacon and an indecent amount of cheese sauce, is the bun which has fried egg inside it. I wish I could have done justice to this burger through my amateur photography skills, but hey, there's a reason to come back.

In between the burger chowdown, diners can also take part in enjoying delectable chicken wings of varying flavors. Booze, burgers, and wings, perfect combination, right?

Our group tried five chicken wing variants but since most of them were spicy, I only remember enjoying two of them; the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings (Php195) which savory sweetness favors my palate, and the Zesty BBQ (Php195) which uses the same rum bbq sauce as the chicken burger.

There's only one item on the dessert menu of Burgers and Brewskies during our visit but during that time, they were in the process of developing dessert line. One of them is this vanilla ice cream topped with spiced shocolate powder and peppered with bacon bits. It was an awesome dessert which I would love to have again on my next visit.

Beer choices as well as other alcoholic beverages at Burgers and Brewskies are aplenty. In fact, it is mirrored by the makeshift lamp made of bottles of beer that hangs on the ceiling of the resto.

Truth be told, I was amazed by the fact that Burgers and Brewskies prices are really affordable considering what they offer are impressive line of burgers that will satisfy anyone who has a thing for this dish. I've been to other burger joints in Manila that dishes out prices that drove me nuts only to end up with a mediocre burgers, so I guess it is safe to say that should I be asked what burger joints I could recommend, Burgers and Brewskies is definitely one of them.

  1. Wow! the burgers and beers at Burgers and Brewskies definitely appeal to my masculine palate. Will definitely have to visit this joint. The side dishes look really appetizing especially the wings. B&B's "Call the Nurse" burger reminds me of a burger joint that started in Phoenix, AZ and branched out in Las Vegas, NV called The Heart Attack Grill. Their menu includes such silly names as Single Bypass, Double Bypass up to Quadruple Bypass - that is 4 quarter-pound patties stacked on a huge bun. Diners are given hospital gowns to wear while dining and the food is served by sexy short skirted nurses. Their burger is just that - really fatty and could kill you if you have too much of it.

    1. Hi lazybum, I never thought that I'd ever say the words Quadruple Bypass and Interesting in one sentence! But I am saying it right now because indeed, that Quadruple Bypass Burger sounds interesting! I wish I could visit that Heart Attack Grill one of these days. And I hope you could also visit Burgers and brewskies when you're in Manila already, you won't regret it :)
