Wishbone, Kapitolyo: Salted Egg Chicken Wings and More!

I visited Wishbone recently since some of my friends, both bloggers and non-bloggers alike tagged it as one of the best restaurants that opened in Kapitolyo Pasig City this year. They do serve variety of dishes but their main selling point is their flavored chicken wings. I cannot say no to chicken wings, so to Wishbone, off I went.

You know that feeling when you are secretly rooting for a business to do really well? And then suddenly, you found out that aside from its expansion, another new concept spring forth from that business which makes everything all the more awesome? That's how I feel while visiting Wishbone.

Wishbone is a new concept by the same cool people behind the popular Pomodoro and partner Rakesh Bhogwani. From its humble beginning, Pomodoro expanded its location and is still on top of its game in serving legit pizza and pasta. Now, it has its sister restaurant, Wishbone.

Tucked right beside The Round Table along East Capitol Drive, Wishbone sports a space designed to accommodate decent numbers of diners. Well, it isn't that big of a place, but compared to Pomodoro when it was just starting, Wishbone cannot be passed off as a sidewalk eatery (albeit, a charming one at at that) the way Pomodoro was perceived back in the days.

Instead, Wishbone holds a legit restaurant appearance. And no matter how the space is still limited and still bare during this particular visit, everything is well kept and designed.

I love how they play on creative spin to maximize all available space. Take for instance the wooden flanks affixed on the wall which serve as a makeshift table. Couples of high chairs were thrown into the mix and voila! added space to accommodate diners.

The use or reclaimed wood and palochina is also very apparent adding a stylish streak to the ambiance. The mirrors in window casement-like frame also add an illusion of space and charm. Painted galvanized iron sheet on the other hand serves as a decorative lining situated between the mirror on the wall and the ceiling. It also serve as a wall padding under the makeshift tables with high chairs.

Notice the bowl-shaped iron casing that houses the lights? Yes, those were lovely as well.

Reclaimed wood being one of the main players in Wishbone's interior were also used as stools coupled with four cloth-covered foam for added comfort.

Wishbone's menu is spot on. It does not boasts of overwhelming numbers of dishes, rather it is very straightforward and focused. Although there are still couple or more items to be added soon, what they are currently serving is more than enough to make your trip to Wishbone well worth it.

First on the table was the well lauded best seller, the Wishbone's Salted Egg Chicken Wings (Php209). To my knowledge (feel free to correct me), Wishbone is the very first that offers this flavor of chicken wings. And I must say it was so mighty impressive I was so close in group hugging all the staff of Wishbone.

I love salted egg combined with other food - to a fault. Remember that Fried Crab with Salted Egg at Gloria Maris Greenhills? Love it! How about the Salted Egg Chinese Style Fried Chicken at Wee Nam Kee? Love it! The Steamed Cream Custard Bun at Crystal Jade Dining In? Love it! The Salted Egg Prawn at Gloria Maris Gateway? Love it! The Bibingka with Salted Egg Macaron at Mrs. Graham Macaron Cafe? Love it as well!

Seriously, I could go on and on.

Now this Salted Egg Chicken Wings at Wishbone is no exception. If I was not pressed for time during my visit, I would probably down a couple of more orders of these impressive grub. The taste of the salted egg was spot on - not too overwhelming, just right amount that makes the taste of the chicken meat still shines through.

I was given a recommendation that the perfect flavor combination with the Salted Egg Chicken Wings is Wishbone's Srirachamansi Wings (Php209) and indeed it was true. 

Now, speaking as someone who can now tolerate spicy food - and even love it - I find Srirachamansi perfect in terms of spice level. Some say it was too spicy for their liking, but I deem the addition of calamansi lends a balancing factor in taste.

While the Salted Egg Chicken Wings drove me into craving for a heaping bowl of rice, the Srirachamansi made me long for a cold bottle of beer. Unfortunately, there was a work I still have to attend to after that luncheon so I just ditched the idea. But on my next visit, I will definitely have that elusive bottle of beer with this wings and feast my way through it.

In a true chicken wings fashion, dipping sauces are available such as ailoli, ranch, and blue cheese for only Php25 a pop.

I also got to try Wishbone's Baby Back Ribs rice meal which happens to be still off-the-menu during my visit. While  love everything baby back ribs, I am aware that not all are created equal. But I could say that Wishbone's version of it rightfully belongs to the top tier.

Sweet and savory in flavor, and oh so tender in texture, it falls off the bone. It is one of the best ribs I have ever eaten, to be honest. 

Another rice meal which I got to try was the Cajun Chicken Steak (Php199) which I find surprisingly amazing. The fillet chicken chunks were tender and very flavorful. Now the side dish of grilled mushroom with tomato was equally impressive I couldn't get enough of it.

When availing the rice meals at Wishbone, diners have the option to change the plain rice to Louisiana Rice (dirty rice) for only Php20. Options for side dishes includes onion rings and grilled tomato with mushroom.

Wishbone also serves different kinds of burgers served with homemade potato chips. Their best seller is their Chori Burger but the one I tried, the Spicy Kofta Burger (Php229) I find as impressive as the wings. I love Mediterranean flavors, so this one sits well with me. 

Not to be left out was the amazing Homemade Iced Tea called Wishtea Glass (Php60). I am crazy about Pomodoro's Iced Tea and basically, this one tasted the same so same love right there.

It does not really surprised me that Wishbone serves delicious and impressive food since people behind it are already known for this kind of talent during the times when all they have is just Pomodoro. With the numbers of restaurants sprouting in Kapitolyo area, Wishbone is one of those I could truly vouch for. And yes, to this day, I am still rooting for them that soon, there will be more homegrown restaurants to be built under their helm.
